We’ve highlighted eight worth keeping your eye on ahead of the 2024 college football season.

These rising stars will factor into their teams’ race for the ACC championship. It will be a new-look conference next season in more ways than one. A year after debuting a division-less format, the conference added three new programs in Cal, Stanford, and SMU, bringing the total number of member schools to 17.

We’ve already projected the ACC’s way-too-early order of finish and final records for the 2024 season and have reached out to team sources to help predict who every team’s starting quarterback will be this fall.

General manager Ryan Poles took a big swing in the trade market to get the Chicago Bears an established veteran at a premium position.

The Bears sent a fourth-round pick — No. 110 — to the Los Angeles Chargers for wide receiver Keenan Allen on Thursday night. The 31-year-old had 108 catches for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games last season and made his sixth Pro Bowl.

Allen steps in as a starting receiver alongside DJ Moore and immediately eliminates the pressing need at the position. For now.

The 2024 season is the final one in Allen’s contract. He rejected an offer to take a pay cut from the team that drafted him in 2013 and will now play on a new team for the first time in his NFL career.

We’ve completed four days of NFL free agency, and nearly 100 of my top 150 players have come off the board, in addition to dozens of other signings and a handful of trades. Here are my biggest takeaways from the first week of the new league year.

Money can fly around during the first days of free agency. With a jump in the salary cap, there can be some unexpected bumps in salaries. Nowhere was that more apparent than at guard. Almost half of the guard contracts in the league, which average $10 million or more, were signed this week.

This might not be a surprise given that, before free agency started, guards had one of the highest growth rates of the top-five contracts among offensive positions over the past decade.

It makes sense that right tackles and guards would start to catch up with left tackles as teams continue to emphasize the offensive line value.

The first wave of the 2024 NFL free agency period was a doozy. Three players landed nine-figure deals, some of the league's best running backs joined rivals, and up-and-comers aggressively spent on upgrades. Along the way, it's clear who the NFL's biggest winners and losers are thus far.

Of course, the first few days of free agency can be fool's gold. The start of the 2024 NFL free agency period has been as entertaining as anyone could've hoped. After a substantial cap-space spike, the league is flush with money, so a relatively weak crop of veterans quickly landed market-resetting deals. Several guards and running backs cashed in quickly.

Believe it or not, spring football practice will soon be at its peak across the country as programs begin early preparations for the upcoming 2024 season. Some major teams are already back on the field this week getting a jumpstart to the new year. By early April spring games will take center stage in college football as fans and pundits alike indulge in the excitement.

With major shakeups following a wild coaching carousel and transfer portal window, there are plenty of changes to see. A new era begins at Alabama and Michigan with national championship-winning coaches moving on.
