What should we do when we are trying to do the very thing we thinking would give God pleasure and God seems to be giving us a big "No." ? Why does the Old Testament contain such strange stories about such messed up people - stories that never seem to resolve neatly? Are people like David in the bible to be our heroes and role models or for a totally different reason ? We cover a lot of rich ground that brings us right up to the current Left-Right divide in our country as we turn to a key moment in King David's life.

Is it possible God is knocking at your door? Is it possible to be too religious ? Is it possible to religious but never actually know God ? In our scripture for this morning God reached out to Samuel four times before Samuel finally understood and said "Speak Lord, for your servant listens." Today's sermon offers us a chance to walk the "Roman Road" - a basic explanation of the gospel that can help us come to know the Lord.

What are we to make of the story of the burning bush ? Did it really happen ? Does God still communicate that way? Would the God you say you know act that way today ? In this amazing story we find something that makes us uncomfortable - God does not reach out to Moses through his reason, but rather by his confusion. In the middle of a very ordinary looking world he puts this one small spot that makes no sense, one place in Moses' world that makes no sense. It is in that place that he encounters not the God he wants, but the God who is. .

C.S. Lewis said " I take Psalm 19 to be the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world." When this amazing Psalm becomes our psalm, good things happen. Today we look at what this Psalm means and give you an effective way to memorize the entire thing. In the very act of memorizing it you will be participating in the prayer of it's very last verse: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."
