96% of the world speak the same ten languages, and there are over 6,000 spoken dialects making up the rest. Professor Randy LaPolla (Director, La Trobe University Research Centre for Linguistic Typology) discusses the process of recording and preserving these languages, and the importance of the process, in a world where globalisation is fast taking hold.
