A man found brutally beaten on Lansing’s river trail has died — his tragic death underscores the urgent crisis facing those with severe mental illness and homelessness. Louis Woodruff, 50, suffered fatal blunt force trauma to the head after being discovered near Old Town; his family says they’ve fought for years to get him help, only to be ignored. This is the sixth homicide in Lansing this year — and his story exposes a broken system where pleas for intervention go unheard, leaving lives at risk. Police are still piecing together how and why he was attacked — but one thing’s clear: his death demands action.

Consumers Energy just launched Crew Check — a new online tool that lets you verify if workers on your street are legit, part of their official team, and even shows vehicle IDs or license plates when available. It’s designed to boost safety and trust during natural gas work, though it won’t reveal exact addresses or confirm contractors. Currently live in areas like Flint, you can also call their hotline for verification. A smart way to feel secure when crews show up at your door.

The U.S. Mint is launching one-dollar coins featuring President Trump’s face—no actual gold, just a gold-like finish—to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. Limited to 250,000 coins with a special mint mark, they’re available in rolls for $61 or $154.50. But while the coins roll out, polls show Trump’s disapproval hovering around 55-60%, making this a curious political-economic moment. Meanwhile, whispers of permanently ending Daylight Saving Time add another layer to the ongoing policy drama.
