A Honolulu man, Ronald Saville, 49, has pleaded guilty to sending threatening emails to Michigan State Police and Governor Gretchen Whitmer, detailing plans to storm the state capitol with an AR-15 and kill as many people as possible—before targeting the governor. He also contacted the FBI, admitting he researched how to travel to Michigan to carry out the attack, and confessed in Kailua that his goal was to scare the governor and gain attention. This isn’t his first brush with the law—he’s got prior federal convictions for threatening former President Bush and a federal judge. Now facing up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release, Saville’s guilty plea signals a major step in holding threats against public officials accountable. The FBI led the investigation.

A mistrial ended a high-stakes Lansing trial involving the death of 21-year-old Caleb Shermoe, who died after being punched by 25-year-old defendant Gaines outside a Raising Cane’s. Prosecutors claimed Gaines intentionally targeted the intoxicated Shermoe, while defense attorneys argued self-defense and blamed delayed medical care—including a missed CT scan—for Shermoe’s fatal outcome. Experts clashed over whether timely intervention could have saved him. With no verdict reached, prosecutors vow to retry—leaving families, jurors, and the community grappling with unanswered questions about justice, accountability, and the thin line between intent and consequence.
