The Pick and Mix Podcast returns early this week to look ahead to a wide and varied GAA period. 

This episode focuses on all things not senior so Alan Hartnett is joined by Steven Miller. 

They begin with a discussion on the Katie Taylor fight before segwaying into the Kilcavan v Mountmellick IFC game. 

The discussion goes on to all of the Junior grades while Alan also speaks about his trip to Rosenallis. 

And Steven gets his right of reply after becoming the butt of a joke involving the Colt-Shanahoe lads following their win over Clonad

LaoisToday teamed up with Colm Parkinson of The Smaller Fish for a special live podcast at Electric Picnic – and you can now listen back to the full conversation.

A packed Ah Hear! Podcast Stage in MindField welcomed the former Laois footballer on Friday afternoon as LaoisToday returned to perform at Electric Picnic for the third successive year.

LaoisToday's Steven Miller was joined on stage by Parkinson for a wide-ranging conversation that began right at the start of his story.

Parkinson discussed his earliest memories and influences before reflecting on the various stages of a career that has taken him from inter-county football to broadcasting and, ultimately, establishing his own successful media business.

Naturally, there was plenty of discussion about his time as a footballer and the experiences that helped shape his views on the modern game.

The conversation then moved through his media career and into his current role as the owner of The Smaller Fish, which has developed into a popular home for GAA discussion, analysis and podcasts.

The second part of the show saw the floor opened to the audience – and the questions brought Parkinson and Miller in plenty of different directions.

The future of Gaelic games featured prominently, including discussion around the prospect of further rule changes following the significant changes already introduced to Gaelic football.

The relationship between inter-county players and the media was another topic, with discussion around whether players need to become more accessible to journalists and supporters and how that could benefit the promotion of Gaelic games.

And this being Electric Picnic, the conversation eventually ventured well beyond the confines of the GAA pitch – with Love Island even making its way into the audience Q&A.

The show marked another milestone for LaoisToday at Electric Picnic, with the local media outlet now having performed at the festival for three years in succession.

After a good two months, we are back with an edition of the LaoisToday Pick and Mix Podcast. 

Alan Hartnett is joined by Steven Miller, plus some members of his family, for this one. 

The episode begins by looking ahead to Laois Camogie's All-Ireland final against Antrim on Sunday. 

Steven also looks back at the 2001 Laois Ladies All-Ireland winning team who were honoured in Croke Park and the lads also pay tribute to the late Liam O'Neill.

The biggest game takes place on Saturday afternoon as the Laois footballers face Down in O'Moore Park at 4pm. 

This is the quarter final of the Tailteann Cup and Alan plus Steven go through who they think is in contention to start. 

The Laois camogie team are in action on the same day away to Westmeath while the Ladies are away to Wexford on Sunday.

The Laois footballers are now two from two in the Joe McDonagh Cup and have a home quarter-final (or a home preliminary quarter-final against New York) to plan for.

The Laois camogie team are up and running in the All Ireland intermediate championship. Can we start planning multiple trips to Croke Park?

Steven and Alan look back on all the weekend action as Alan joins us from Dublin Airport as he sets off gallivanting again.

After that, the lads look ahead to the hurlers against London where a result will guarantee a Joe McDonagh Cup final place.

The camogie team begin their All-Ireland campaign at home to Carlow on Sunday while the minor footballers are in an All-Ireland Tier 3 semi final on Saturday against Antrim.

Alan is making the trip to Ruislip on Saturday where the Laois footballers will take on London and he looks ahead to that Tailteann Cup game. 

We conclude with a Steven Miller rant on the proposal to change age grades in Laois for 2027.

The Joe McDonagh Cup clash between Laois and Down in O'Moore Park this Saturday is the big game of the weekend and is essentially a semi-final in the competition. 
Laois have comfortably gotten the better of Down in each of the past three seasons - with an average winning margin of 32 points. Surely to God, they can't lose now?
Also up for discussion are the club leagues, club transfers, the minor footballers progress in Tier 3 of the All Ireland championship and Alan takes on Emo in this week's 30-second challenge.
