In Trumped Up Charges by Joanna Wayne: We find Adam Dalton an ex Marine who was badly injured in the war in Afghanistan. He has arrived at his estranged father's ranch to attend what is suppose to be the reading of R.J. Dalton's will. But not so fast, one is suppose to dead before a will is read "right". While at the Dry Gulch Ranch, he receives a call from his mother informing him that his ex-fiancé's twin daughters have been kidnapped.

Hadley O'Sullivan never told Adam Dalton he was a father. Believing the lies that Adam had told her after he was injured. She made a life for herself and their twin daughters Lacy and Lila. She has been a loving and caring mother to her daughters. Now that their daughters have been kidnapped she tells him the truth. She is determined to find her daughters, no matter that it takes.

Now Adam and Hadley along with help from R.J. and Fred Casey have joined forces to help find the twins. But one Detective isn't sure that Hadley herself isn't behind the kidnapping.

This was my first novel by Joanna Wayne, but it will not be my last. She wrote an Amazing Intrigue story, which had me guessing for a while. This was a non-stop read for me. I was waiting not so patiently to see who had taken the girls. Besides main characters that were well written, the author wrote great secondary characters. One in particular that you just wanted to beat the pulp out out. To make a reader feel that kind of passion in my humble opinion is the sign of a really talented writer. Well done !

Any fans of Intrigue novels will not be disappointed.

loved this story

I really enjoyed this book. The suspense was good. Hadley is worried, and just wants her twin girls back. They were kidnapped in the middle of the night from the bed they were sleeping in. The doors, and windows were all still locked, so who ever did it, had a key. With that being said, it made me read this story with more anticipation. Suddenly everyone you know, and trust becomes a suspect.

Hadley, and Adam was engaged to get married. He was a marine, and got deployed to Afghanistan. He wrote to Hadley, breaking up with her. She never told him she was pregnant. She had a broken heart, but was a really good mother. She worked hard as a single mother to give her girls all they needed. Her world comes crashing down when her girls are taking.

Adam still cares about Hadley.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A story with a driven plot, a female lead with a backbone, and a synopsis that indicated the story was set in New Zealand.

Would you ever listen to anything by Soraya Lane again?

While a future purchase by this author seems doubtful, I certainly wouldn't without thoroughly researching reviews.

How could the performance have been better?

As indicated above, there was no mention in the synopsis that this story takes place in New Zealand. So as settled into listening to one of my top favorite narrators tell me another rodeo/ranching/to die for cowboy story, I couldn't figure out why the local law sounded as though he an escapee from "The Dukes of Hazard" reruns and why the female lead was a contradiction. When the narrator expressed her thoughts she seemed intelligent enough, but the moment she opened her mouth she sounded like such a ninny that no self respecting honorable cowboy would want to tangle with. Her voice was nothing like what I've come to expect from Jack. It wasn't until Chapter 3 (if memory serves) that I discovered why the male lead & his daughter and Jack's natural voice as the story's narrator were the only "normal" sounding characters. Ah, maybe because they were Americans transplants living in New Freaking Zealand.

Shame on Audible's sample reading for not including some of the worst examples of dialect to come out of New Zealand. A featured element, that had I known ahead of time, I never would have purchased a book I couldn't finish.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Rodeo Daddy?

I don't feel I'm qualified to give an opinion because I couldn't finish the book. As much as it pains me to say this about a narrator I could listen to read from a phone book, "Jack, stay away from New Zealand. Stick with what we have come to expect and adore from you."

This is a very light-hearted, geek-referenced (Princess Bride quotes and all) Austin, Texas-flavored romp of a romance.

Geek-engineer Nicola James is strait-laced, focused, and too busy for a social life (other than the Friday night lesbian karaoke parties next door.)

Enter a strange journal she picks up in an antique store that has a very strange way of altering the words she writes down. The first thing it tells her is "Nicola James will be sensible and indulge in a little romance."

Enter another detour in her master plan; Sean MacInnes, the lead singer of a band in Austin for the SXSW music festival. He is playful, spontaneous, and determined to bring a little frivolity into her life.

Will Nicola follow her heart and the journal's Jane Austin-esque pronouncements?

If you're in the mood for a light and airy froth of a romance, this is the book for you. The Austin references and the geek shout-outs made the story fun. Sean was a bit of a bland character for me (despite his delicious Scottishness) and I wanted a bit more development of why Nic ended up so strait-laced, and I enjoy a bit more naughtiness in my romance (this is fairly fade-to-grey at the interesting bits) but it was still fun.

A MAGICAL ROMANCE

I think that I would have given 5 stars to this novel if I hadn't found some odd things (motorbikes that appear and disappear, for example), or if I were a native speaker of English. Or even better, if I were a native from Texas. The author uses acronyms a bit too much. Maybe those acronyms are clear for people whose mother tongue is English, but I didn't understand them and sometimes I was a bit lost about what they were talking about. And Nicola, the main character, is the kind of character that gets on my nerves.

Apart from that, it is an enjoyable novel, full of romance and hints taking us to the world of Jane Austen. The plot is quite original, even though it is not the first time we read about journals that speak to the ones writing on them (remember Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?). But nonetheless it is a good book, quite entertaining, and I liked it a lot. I am a sucker for a good romantic story, and a sexy Scotman is a good hook to keep you reading. The story keeps you wondering what will happen next, what will happen when Nicola checks the journal, or what will happen when she is about to meet what destiny has in stock for her.

A great narrator can elevate a bad book...

...a bad or mediocre narrator can't do a thing for a bad or mediocre book.

I dont often fail to finish a book, but this is definitely one of those that I could not finish.

The story itself is one weve seen before. It can be done well, but it doesnt quite get there for me. The FMC consistently asks the MMC Why? and then tells him that he doesnt answer her questions. Its done so much so that its a thing. The FMC also asserts often how she is an adult and not a child, but its hard to tell that from the book. Yes, she has a good job, but it doesnt feel like shes earned it.

My dissatisfaction came from the narrator. She was just the wrong person for this book. Right away you hear how crisp her Ts are. Enunciation is grand if youre doing Shakespeare, but if youre reading dialogue coming out of a 23-year-olds mouth, it doesnt fit. So she's got an old lady's voice with a young person's words, and she still can't resolve in the middle to be a convincing 23-year-old.

This narrator was also not good at making the different character voices sound different. That doesn't always have to be there for an interesting audiobook, but when other things are failing this is just another "sin."

After about 3 hours into the audio, I had to stop. I was going to try to finish because I did pay for this title and I try to get my money's worth... but I couldn't do it. There are other books I have ready to go that I am sure will be more worthy of my time.

Really enjoy the author's football story lines. I hope the author continues putting her stories into audio form. The narration was enjoyable to listen to :-)

I wonder what would happen if the author quit her job as a 'mild mannered accountant by day' and became a full-time writer? Her stories have wonderful, sexy characters, great spot-on humor and hot sex too :-)

The throaty, sexy voice of Ms. Padovan is even better here than in 'Playing for Keeps' - very relaxed and sounds like she was having fun; the dialogue and narrator parts flow beautifully.

Keep 'em coming, Ms. Matis!

Great Story - VERY DISAPPOINTING NARRATION!

I've only written a few reviews, but with sincere apologies up front to the narrator for what I am about to say, I felt compelled to write this one... as a WARNING TO LISTENERS.

I have this short electronic novel and thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, characters and writing style (as well as its predecessor, Playing For Keeps). However, and this is a BIG however to Audible customers, the narration does not compliment Ms. Matis' efforts. Had I not already read the story, this performance would have given me a totally different perception of the book. And not in a good way. I can only imagine what the author thinks about it! The female lead, a sophisticated model in her early 30's, came off as a breathy, high-pitched, immature 16 yo while the male lead, an early 30's football hunk made me cringe with his old-man, weird, godfather-ish voice. And the inflection/reading was just not up to what I'm used to from an Audible book.

Sorry, Audible, but you were totally off the mark on this performance, and THAT'S disapointing to me, as well.

Tactical Advantage

The third installment into the Rose Red Rapist story is sweet. CSI Annie Hermann leads a very solitary life. Her parents dying in a car accident when she was 17 and having no other family becoming attracted to fellow task force detective Nick Fensom who has a very large, loving and loud family flows throughout the book.

Nick has always teased petite Annie while working on the case. When the latest victim is raped and then murdered on New Year's Eve, these two task force members are the ones available to go to the scene and process. Nick doesn't quite understand his attraction to Annie when she's attacked by someone who doesn't want them to have any evidence. Annie doesn't understand how she goes from thinking Nick is a "pain in the posterior" to feeling safe in his presence.

Nick feels guilty for leaving her alone for the short amount of time she was attacked and uses guilt as an excuse to be her protector 24/7, with Annie fighting every step of the way. But, as threats increase, Nick goes into overprotective mode.

Nick also has a family issue distracting him. His baby sister is dating a gang member. As teenagers do, his sister rebels. Calm Annie gets her to see the light. Once his sister's dilemma is handled. Nick is frustrated with not making progress with finding the serial rapist and now other accomplices. Annie is determined to figure out what evidence they do have left can tell them.

Finding out who has been terrorizing Annie was a bit of a disappointment. Not much of an explanation after the build-up throughout the book. But, Nick and Annie's story in this series was the cutest.

I really enjoyed this book!

A few months ago I read (Kansas City Cowboy) so this book is a nice follow up. I really enjoyed the banter between Nick, and Annie. Nick and Annie and the KCPD are trying to solve the red rose rapist case. Annie is a CSI, and a criminologist, and Nick is a detective. Annie gets mugged when she is processing a crime scene, and Nick feels guilty, thinking he should have been there to protect her. Nick vows to protect her from now on, even if she is head strong, and doesn't think she needs his help. This book had lots of suspense, action, and romance. I have to say I loved Nick's big family. I'm thankful that KFPD were able to solve most of the case. I can't wait to read the next book.

The book had a few grammar mistakes, but didn't distract too much.

Comanche Rituals

I found this book to be an easy listen, with a nice murder mystery. Dr. Caras women patients were at risk from the murderer, and she felt compelled to help with solving this mystery, despite being nine months pregnant. The kicker is she has to work with the father of her child, who didnt know she was pregnant with his babe.

I loved it

as I worked and walked to the store also while cooking and cleaning I was able to listen to the story and get a lot finished! I'll be buying more audible in the future!

Native Cowboy is a great detective/romance that haves you trying to figure out who is the killer... I love how the mystery unfolded.... a good book to read or even listen to!

I just started this book and so far the book is good but the person reading is horrible, when she does the man's voice it's not realistic and very awkward, ruins the story for me, hope I can get through it.
