SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
The Spartanburg County Coroner responded to a police shooting in Spartanburg Thursday night.
It happened at a home on South Carolina Avenue in the Duncan Park neighborhood, according to Cpl. John Burgess with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
According to Burgess, when deputies arrived to the home, the suspect threatened them with a knife and ran to a bedroom and then barricaded himself inside.
Charles Clevenger with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect as Darius L.J. Holcomb, 39, 0f Spartanburg.
A family was removed from the home and negotiations started, Burgess says.
After no progress, tear gas was placed in the room, Burgess says.
According to Burgess, after the tear gas and negotiations failed, the bedroom was breached.
Officers sent a K9 to Holcomb and he began to stab it, according to Burgess.
At least one deputy fired their weapon striking Holcomb, Burgess says.
Burgess says that Spartanburg Emergency Medical Services was called immediately and responded to the scene.
Burgess says that the K9 will receive treatment from a veterinarian and from observation, the K9 will recover.
