The film follows actor Mark Patton’s journey from his time as a young, closeted gay man in a repressive hometown to his rise as a leading actor in Hollywood and his subsequent disappearance after the release of the controversial and wonderfully gay (and possibly homophobic?) sequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street, A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge. His 2016 novel, The Fisherman, won the Bram Stoker Award for superior achievement in a novel and the This Is Horror award for novel of the year. In this interview, we talk about how he got into horror, why some critics don’t take horror seriously, whether the universe is really as cruel as some horror stories make it seem, and what kind of horror movies does a literary giant like him enjoy?
