In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about the 2020 documentary, Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street. It was directed by Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen, with voiceover work written by Michael Beard, Clint Catalyst, and Leo Herrera. The film follows actor Mark Patton’s journey from his time as a young, closeted gay man in a repressive hometown to his rise as a leading actor in Hollywood and his subsequent disappearance after the release of the controversial and wonderfully gay (and possibly homophobic?) sequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street, A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge. Joining us this episode is our good friend Gracie Jarvis of Good Mourning, Nancy, one of the best horror podcasts out there! So pour a glass of wine, slip into your fanciest knife-fingered glove, and get ready to scream…queen!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're so excited to be joined by writer and director Adam Mason! Adam is the director of more than a dozen feature length films, most recently 2020’s pandemic sci-fi thriller, Songbird. Adam began his career in horror, and in 2019 directed one of our favorite recent horror movies, I’m Just Fcking With You. We discuss Adam’s history as a horror writer and director, what it was like to film Songbird so early in the pandemic, how the lightning in a bottle of I’m Just Fcking With You came about, and more!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about the 2020 Vince Vaughn acting showcase / teen slasher horror comedy, FREAKY. Freaky was written by Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon and directed by Christopher Landon. It stars the aforementioned Vince Vaughn as well as Kathryn Newton. The plot revolves around the Freaky Friday trope of body-switching, but this ain’t your momma’s body-switching comedy. There is blood, there are guts, there’s a chainsaw to the nuts! And we’re thrilled to be joined by one of our favorite guests and good friends, Josh Gideon, to break it all down for you! When Josh is involved, you know we’re gonna go off the rails pretty quickly, and we are happy to say that this episode is no exception!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, Ben is joined by former 9/11 truther turned conspiracy theory debunker Stephanie Kemmerer to ask the burning question on everyone’s mind: is 1986’s Jim Henson directed dark fantasy classic Labyrinth part of a vast conspiracy to confirm the truth behind QAnon’s wildest accusations of child-eating and satanism carried out by the US’s Deep State elite? Hint: no, it isn’t. But it’s a lot of fun comparing what the infamously wacky conspiracy theorist cult that attempted to overthrow the US government has in common with a movie starring puppets and featuring a farting bog. Oddly, there’s more in common between these two than you might think!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about 2020’s The Lodge! The Lodge was directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz and stars none other than Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, alongside brilliant child actors Jaeden Martell and Lia McHugh. This winter horror story revolves around a woman stuck in a secluded house with her boyfriend’s children as strange occurrences dredge up her traumatic past. Oh yeah, and Alicia Silverstone makes quite an appearance! We’re joined in our discussion by our very good friend Ariana (Switch)Blade. Hold your pencil tight, grab the cinnamon, and bundle up for this feelgood holiday romp (you’ll get those jokes by the end of the episode, I swear)! There’s definitely nothing horrifying ahead!

In this Episode of Last Year's Horror, we're joined by award winning horror author, John Langan. John has published two novels and four short story collections, with another on the way. His 2016 novel, The Fisherman, won the Bram Stoker Award for superior achievement in a novel and the This Is Horror award for novel of the year. His latest short story collection is Children of the Fang and Other Genealogies. In this interview, we talk about how he got into horror, why some critics don’t take horror seriously, whether the universe is really as cruel as some horror stories make it seem, and what kind of horror movies does a literary giant like him enjoy? Oh, and keep a pen and paper handy if you’re looking for horror authors to read, because John knows his stuff!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're joined by our friend TJ Stokes to discuss the controversial political satire / horror / action thriller THE HUNT, which created an uproar just with a few key words ripped from the social media lexicon. What a bunch of deplorable snowflakes, right? Get cucked! That’s a thing, right? The Hunt was written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof and directed by Craig Zobel. Come for the satire, stay for Betty Gilpin’s badass, drawling, mumbling, crazy-eyed performance! This movie CUCKS!!!

In this episode of Last Year's Horror, we're talking about the 2020 reimagining of the classic Universal monster movie, The Invisible Man! Directed by Leigh Whannell and starring Elisabeth Moss, it’s the romantic story of two star-crossed lovers—one an aspiring architect, and the other a genius of a man who just…wants to be seen. Okay, so it’s not that exactly, but we break it down and dig into the good, the bad, and the questionable CGI. We’re joined this episode by Sam Vazquez, co-host of Even the Podcast is Afraid!

Written by Rob Hayes and directed by Oz Perkins, it stars Sophia Lillis, Samuel Leakey, and Alice Krige.
