The Child Cancer Foundation is worried the cancellation of this month's street appeal could leave it with a funding shortage of about 300-thousand dollars. The cancellation was prompted by health and safety fears for its volunteers amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The foundation's chief executive Monica Briggs says the public can still donate now at childcancer.org.nz or text CHILD to 3457 to give $3.

Serious flooding in New South Wales has left half a million people under evacuation orders or warnings. One of the worst hit is the northern city of Lismore where floodwaters were so high that hundreds of residents perched on their rooftops waiting to be rescued. The disaster started last weekend when 700 millimetres of rain fell in just a day. Binnie O'Dwyer lives in Lismore and her home has been ruined by the floodwaters.

The United Nations says one million refugees have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded a week ago. The fighting is continuing on multiple fronts and the International Criminal Court is opening an investigation into potential war crimes. A great white shark targeted a 14 year old surfer in the Bay of Plenty earlier this week and it's thought that it was only because he made a sudden turn of his board that potential tragedy was avoided. The boy was surfing off Matakana island on Monday when the shark launched itself out of the water, just missing him. The boy's father and a friend were surfing with him and the friend who witnessed the incident, described the shark as a "3.5 metre monster out for a kill." It comes off the back of other recent sightings of great whites in the Bay of Plenty. Dr Riley Elliot is a shark scientist who last year put out a warning about the increase in great white sightings in the Bay of Plenty.

Day 23 of the anti-mandate protest near Parliament was probably the most dramatic yet. Hundreds of police spent the day clearing the protest and dozens of arrest were made. Sponge bullets and pepper spray was used, while the protesters hurled bricks and paint at the police. Chris Roberts lives near Parliament overlooking the protest site. He's been up since 6am watching the days events unfold.

It's almost a week since Russia invaded Ukraine and it's feared the death toll among civilians and military personnel will continue to climb. The eastern city of Kharkiv has been hit hard by Russian artillery and a huge military convoy is bearing down on the capital, Kyiv. CNN's Correspondent in Moscow, Vasco Cotovio has the latest.

In Europe some countries have passed laws to protect workers right to disconnect from work communications at the end of a normal working day. In January Belgium brought in a law giving federal officials the right to make themselves unavailable after work. Portugal has similar measures in place and now there's a push to introduce a 'right to disconnect' law across the European Union. One of those backing it is Alex Agius Saliba from Malta who's a member of the European Parliament.

A survivor of the Christchurch mosque shootings has just finished the first day of his 350 kilometre walk from Dunedin to Christchurch. He's walking in the name of peace to reclaim the path taken by the terrorist. Temel Atacocugu was praying at Al Noor Mosque on March the 15th, 2019 when the massacre unfolded, and was shot nine times. He left the Octagon in Dunedin this afternoon, to walk more than 350 kilometres to Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre.

The President of NZ's Institute of Medical Laboratory Science, Terry Taylor, says some people may never get their PCR result back. Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield apologised today for the delay of 32,000 Covid-19 test results. He says labs are committed to processing all tests, even though they've been delayed.
