A Boston native, she could knit since before she could read and decided to become a designer when she was 13. She attended Cornell University for design school, and then moved to New York, where she temped briefly in a knitting factory before joining the design team at Oscar de la Renta as a knitwear product development assistant.
After four years as a product developer, she left to go to MIT Sloan School of Management to study business and operations.
