Norm is joined in the second hour by Robert Storace, staff writer at the Hartford Business Journal.
Norm begins by saying that he wants to be able to trust his eyes, but that in recent years he has become deeply suspicious of what he reads. What role does an editor play in focusing a news organization in where it goes for facts and determining what facts are?
Rob discusses the focus of the HBJ, who the readers are, what those readers want to know, and what becomes of a publication whose audience is sophisticated, including economic development, transportation, the emergence of the cannabis industry, and more.
What is the role of print? Does readership increase or decrease when a publication moves online?
Rob teases his forthcoming story about the changes in the media landscape in Connecticut, which is changing dramatically. Morale is low in traditional print publications. What are we to do? Do we even need to do anything?

Norm opens the show talking about the weather. Because what else is an old man to do? He also talks about developments in the McGrath case and what, if any, additional arrests he expects law enforcement to make.
Norm is then joined by Paul Bass, author of "Murder in the Model City", and the Editor of the New Haven Independent. The two discuss the state of local news and how national values are reflected in local communities and how local issues are interpreted by local citizens.
Norm and Paul wax poetic about the history of journalism, what has changed within the culture, and where the future of reporting at the local level might live.

Norm is joined in the second hour by States Attorney General for the District of Hartford, Connecticut, Sharmese Wolcott.
Sharmese and Norm go back many years as legal adversaries. Sharmese joins Norm to discuss what the juvenile justice system is at a fundamental level, the goals thereof, and where the voids in the system reside.
Norm inquires about the concept of "delinquency" and how young a person can be to be "put into the system" or prosecuted, which in the state of Connecticut is the age of 13 years old.
The conversation circles around as Norm acknowledges that the juvenile system is most devoted to rehabilitation and for good reason, a proposition with which Sharmese agrees. However, Norm presses on this.
How serious an offense might a juvenile commit before the case turns from juvenile to adult? What about punishment? Deterrence? Tough questions.

Norm is joined in the first hour as he is every Monday by W. Michael Boyer, managing attorney at Carolina Craft Legal and the producer of Law and Legitimacy.
Norm opens with a discussion of federal grand jury empanelments, the Durham investigation of Michael Sussman (the attorney for the Hillary Clinton campaign), and why the nation is perhaps not hearing anything about the ongoing trial.
Michael joins Norm to talk about the weekend editorial in the Wall Street Journal, titled "Hillary Clinton Did It" regarding the Trump-Russia Collusion narrative that was poured atop the American psyche during the entirety of Trump's term in office.
Norm and Michael discuss the implications of the Clinton family involvement in the Trump-Russia Collusion narrative, and then pivot in the back half of the hour to a discussion of the American Bar Association's recent move to remove the standardized testing requirement for law school admissions, and Judge Ginsburg's mission to restore American citizens' undertanding of how our political system works through "Civics Fundamentals."

Norm is joined in the second hour by a friend of the LAL podcast, attorney Mark Dubois.
Norm opens this hour discussing the obvious lack of focus monopolizing our political structure as it prioritizes proxy wars abroad while ignoring the very obvious shortcomings of the current administration at home.
How are lawyers regulated? Mark is the former Chief Discplinary Counsel for the State of Connecticut.
The first lawyer code came about in 1883, and Mark believes we are still getting it wrong.
What is the attorney-client privilege? How does it compare to the duty of confidentiality?
Listen to gain an invaluable understanding of how knowledge assymetry in the practice of law functions to inform expectations of practitioners of law as it relates to regulating the legal profession.

Norm is joined in the first hour by Harry Weller, formerly of the Connecticut's Chief State's Attorney's Office.
Norm opens with a few thoughts about Bill Cosby's release in Pennsylvannia. Norm discusses. Norm talked with Bill Cosby a little while back, and now Bill is facing down a new trial set to begin, which calls Bill to defend himself against allegations of his conduct from 1975. Is this trial by ambush?
We'll try to get Cosby on the air for a later show.
Norm and Harry discuss the role of prosecutors in the American system of justice, and what happens to criminal cases on appeals. What makes Connecticut unique? Harry explains.

Norm is joined in the second hour by long-time friend, colleague, lawyer, writer, documentarian, and American cultural commentator, Mike Cernovich.
Norm and Mike begin with the origin of their relationship, the impact of trial law juggernaut, Gerry Spence, on Mike's early legal career, psychodramatic persuasion techniques as a way of understanding the world better, and even a brief hommage to the late F. Lee Bailey.
Norm and Mike then take a call from David Sullivan, formerly of the U.S. Attorney's Office and one of Norm's lifelong friends.
Norm and Mike catch stride as Norm queries the narrative being written of Mike by establishment media, which tends to create a brand around movements and then define the character of those movements by the lowest common denominators of those movements.
Mike discusses his increasing appetite for politics, how he defines his own political evolution out of what he refers to as the "old school civil libertarian", and how writing afforded the influence and freedom necessary to pivot away from the daily grind of legal practice.
Norm and Mike continue apace with a review Mike's influence on the 2016 election, his view of Hillary Clinton as an existential threat to American freedom, and emerging populist influence of the New American Right.
Mike's most popular book is "Gorilla Mindset," his most popular documentary is "Hoaxed", and he dominates Twitter @Cernovich.

Norm opens the show on fire, giving a version of President Joe Biden's speech that should have been if identitarians were not busy dividing the country.
Norm gives his daily book recommendation: Ann Case and Angus Deaton's "Deaths of Despair and the Future of Capitalism" from 2020.
There are more deaths of deaths of despair than there are deaths due to gun violence. Why don't we want to talk about that?
Is it any wonder that those representative of the Despair Class draw an inference that they are being replaced, that their seat at the American table is in jeopardy?
The loss of meaning, pride, dignity, self-respect that come along with the death of marriage and community is killing middle America.

Norm is joined in the second hour by esteemed trial lawyer and retired professor of history and criminal justice, Andy Warren.
Norm and Andy talk about the differences between being a prosecutor and a defense lawyer, a case they worked together in Dodge City, Kansas, and how the more things change the more things stay the same.
Andy also talks about his growing weary of dealing with people who view the defense lawyer—often an appointed lawyer—as someone who is not as effective or as competent as a 'paid' lawyer. While not on the appointed list, Andy has spent years at the direct call of the court to represent defendants who simply needed help.
Norm then discusses the road trip he and Andy took last year. And then asks Andy, "what in the world led you to go to an indian reservation?"

Norm is then joined in the first hour by Jimmy Vallee, previous LAL guest and the principal of Valhil Capital. Jimmy is an expert in cryptocurrency and has much to offer to the average person in each of our pursuit of an understanding of money and the future thereof.
Norm starts with a fundamental look at the function of "money": a medium of exchange; a measure of value; a store of value; and a way to track value.
What does it mean to 'digitize' currency? Why would we want to 'digitize' currency?
Norm questions the trust in our system of money, and the inherent feeling of 'crazy' he gets in thinking about the digital nature of our current economic system.
Jimmy asserts that the dollar is at risk internationally, and that there will be a massive change in the relative value of national currencies like the dollar and other global reserve currencies.
But where are we going, and what does it mean?
