On this week's episode of LawFlip, Aston Wallace - the winner of the LawFlip Head Start Initiative (a contest aimed at helping a black attorney launch a new law firm) - joins Benjy Smith and Louis Benowitz for an exceptionally compelling and wide-ranging conversation.
Aston will be launching the Law Office of Aston Wallace, which will be a Los Angeles-based workers' compensation firm that fights on behalf of workers who suffer workplace injuries. Aston is a Philadelphia native, a graduate of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and has more than a decade of experience in workers' compensation law, having represented both employers and employees at various points in his career. In addition to being a lawyer, Aston is a legit comedian who regularly performs.
During their discussion, Aston, Benjy, and Louis talk about an array of topics including, but not limited to, Aston's experiences as a lawyer, the time he met Barack Obama back before he was President Obama, his motivations for going out on his own and representing injured workers, his ability to empathize with people from diverse backgrounds, Aston's perspectives on Trump, Biden, and black conservatives, well-meaning white people trying to help the black community while recognizing that some people will always see their efforts as condescending, and the tension between "cancel culture" and evolving viewpoints in today's society.
We can't wait to work with Aston more in the future and watch him grow a successful practice!
