  • 2022 ACC Lacrosse Way Too Early Conference Predictions, UVA Locked & Loaded (LaxFactor Podcast #181)

The ACC has been the best top-to-bottom lacrosse conference for many years now.  With teams like Virginia, Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame, how could it not be? The 2021 season saw the ACC beat the living crap out of each other, each team having to play 6 ACC contests but that battle-tested these teams to the point that all of them ended up in the NCAA tournament.

So how do things look for 2022? Despite it being way too early to know, I'll give you my thoughts.

In this episode, we'll start by talking some general news, but we'll dive deep into InsideLacrosse.com's Top 50 Returning Players list.  We'll talk about  #50 through #31 skipping over the girls only because I know nothing about girls lacrosse.

Guys that made the cut, to name a few, Owen Hiltz (Syracuse), Brennan O'Neill (Duke), Arden Cohen (Notre Dame), Brendan Nichtern (Army), Nakeie Montgomery (Duke), Bret Makar (Maryland), Asher Nolting (High Point), Petey LaSalla (Virginia) and many, many more.

We'll also talk a bit about Loyola's 2022 schedule which dropped last week. All that and a bit more in this weeks episode, #180, almost to #200 fools.

  • 2022 Watchlist: Brennan ONeill, Logan Wisnauskas, Handley, Dordevic & More (LaxFactor Podcast #179)

2022 is going to be huge for college lacrosse as we'll see a bit of a "changing of the guard" in terms of who is doing battle for end of the year awards and the Tewaaraton. Guys like Brennan O'Neill and Logan Wisnauskas both played Robin to Sowers & Bernhardt last, but this year will get to put on the bat suit for themselves. Sam Handley hasn't seen a college lacrosse field since his breakout freshman season for Penn and talk surrounding this guy is that he may put in a Tewaaraton finalist quality performance.

Beyond these guys, we'll talk about Tucker Dordevic (Syracuse), Brendan Curry (Syracuse), Bubba Fairman (Maryland), Johnathan Donville (Maryland), Roman Puglise (Maryland), Matt Rahill (Maryland), Brett Kennedy (Syracuse), Dylan Gergar (Penn), Michael Long (Cornell), John Piatelli (Cornell), Aidan Olmstead (Loyola), Kevin Lindley (Loyola) and many more.

  • High Point 2022 Schedule Includes Some Killers: Maryland, UNC, UVA & Duke (LaxFactor Podcast #178)

The High Point men's lacrosse squad will once again play one of the most brutal early season schedules in all of college lacrosse including Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Duke. Throw in conference foes Richmond and Jacksonville along with solid programs like Robert Morris and Navy, and this schedule overall is one of the toughest in the country. I will rip through this schedule game by game and will predict what I think High Point's end-of-season record will be. Thanks to Asher Nolting, Hunter Vines and Brayden Mayea, I think they'll be just fine.

Also want to talk about Richmond and how they looked solid in their scrimmage against Penn State. Richmond returns Ryan Lanchbury, Richie Connell and Dalton Young on offense, so they should be very solid, and will once again try and play spoiler to High Points happy time.

  • Fall Ball Updates: Syracuse, Virginia, Hopkins, Ohio State, Hobart & More (LaxFactor Podcast #177)

Lots of 2021 fall ball action to talk about including Syracuse vs Ohio State, Virginia taking on Lehigh, Johns Hopkins hosting Hobart and Richmond, High Point and Harvard did battle and much more.

Syracuse supposedly took down Ohio State, both both teams looked good.  Rumors continue that we'll see Tucker Dordevic get some time at attack for the Orange which many of us have been calling for since last season.

Virginia looked excellent as usual and Petey LaSalla scored once again off a face-off draw and stuck yet another incredible goal, back-handed.  Kid is the most electric face-off guy to play since Trevor Baptiste, and Baptise hasn't been gone all that long.

Asher Nolting looked like a cheat code for High Point per Inside Lacrosse, and Sam King, the freshman from Harvard had himself a day going for somewhere in the area of 5 goals and an assist.  King did it all as did Nolting in their game, but looks like Harvard edged High Point by a goal or three.

For Hobart, the story was Ryan Archer who IL reported looked like he may have been the best player on the field at times.  Anyone familiar with Hobart knows Archer is legit, but they are making it sound like he may have a Ryan Tierney level breakout season.  Good luck to that kid, he's the real deal.

More next week as I look through the interwebs for more fall ball news to report.

  • Lacrosse Sixes Event, US, Canada & the Haudenosaunee Take The Field & More (LaxFactor Podcast #176)

In today's episode we are going to keep it simple and stick to random news. To start, we'll talk about some World Sixes action that took place this weekend where we got to see the United States, Canada and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy do battle and I was suprised that I really liked what I saw in terms of highlights. I think I will be a bit more willing after this weekend to push this, and I'll talk about why in this episode.

Random college news that I'll rip through...

Gary Gait is allowing the Syracuse kids the freedom to explore their creativity on the field. Not a surprise, and not like Desko didn't allow them to get icky with it (he did for sure), but to hear that Gait is encouraging them to be creative is exciting news for Cuse lacrosse fans.

Sam Handley of Penn, Matt Kinnear of InsideLacrosse thinks he may be a legit Tewaraaton contender in 2022 and I couldn't agree more. The kid put up a monster year in 2019 as a rookie before getting injured in the first game of 2020 against Maryland (but not before putting up 3 goals and 2 assists). After not getting to play in 2021, this kid is going to be playing some mean lacrosse and I think he'll be one of the nations best and a name everyone will know by the end of 2022.

There's more, but to figure out what it is, you'll have to watch and/or listen.

  • 2021 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament Predictions Follow Up, Am I Smart, Or Dumb? (LaxFactor Podcast #175)

At least one person asked for it, so you all shall receive. I'm going to revisit my predictions for the 2021 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament starting with the first round and see how I actually did in terms of (a) picking the winners and (b) picking the spread. I'm notoriously terrible at making predictions and have always fully admitted that fact, so it will be interesting to see...Am I Smart?  Or Am I dumb?

    • Attackmen To Watch In 2022, Shellenberger, Nolting, Kavanagh & More (LaxFactor Podcast #173)

There is no shortage of incredible offensive talent we will be able to enjoy in 2022's upcoming lacrosse season, but there are 5 guys that I'm really excited about, that I wanted to talk about.

Caveat, I'm not going to talk about Chris Gray, even though we know he's going to be the favorite once again for the Tewaaraton. Nothing at all against Gray, but I talked about him a ton last season and will do so again this season, so for this show, I'm going to talk about guys that aren't quite at Gray's level in terms of media coverage.

Those guys are... Connor Shellenberger (Virginia), Asher Nolting (High Point), Pat Kavanagh (Notre Dame), Ryan Lanchbury (Richmond) and Richie LaCalandra (LIU).

All five of these guys had huge 2021 seasons, and all five of them are expected to continue to trash on the NCAA in 2022 as well. All of them have different styles of play, some more flashy than others, but to be certain, all of the get things done on the lacrosse field and are must see TV.

    • Lyle Thompson Has a Day, Waterdogs & Cannons Pick Up Wins on Sunday & More (LaxFactor Podcast #172)

Lyle Thompson finally had his breakout game for the Cannons going for 5 goals and 4 assists in the Cannons one-goal win over the Archers. Stephen Rehfuss put up 2 goals and 3 assists in the win. The save of the year was made by Nick Marrocco as he turned away a doorstep chance with only a second remaining in the contest to secure the victory.

The Waterdogs pulled away from the Chrome on Sunday as well, winning out 12-6. Mikie Schlosser was good for 3 goals and Connor Kelly stuck 2 singles in the win. Jake Withers won 59% of his face-off draws over Connor Farrell. Withers stat line was a solid 1 goal, 13 of 22 at the face-off stripe, 5 groundballs and 3 caused turnovers. He was instrumental in the win.

The All-Star game is up next, I think Ament's squad is going to take it. They have Ament, Teat, Schlosser and more. All the hot offensive hands and thats what pays the bills for All-Star games.

The Redwoods are currently sitting on top of the PLL standings with a 4-3 record and the tie-breakers, but this league is up for grabs, no doubt.
