The first week of college lacrosse action is now behind us and in todays episode I want to talk about every game that was played at the D1 level including Vermont vs Syracuse, Air Force vs Ohio State, Richmond vs Maryland, Utah vs Denver, Hopkins vs Jacksonville, Bellarmine vs Duke and many more.

I'll of course talk first about Syracuse's win over Vermont followed by Ohio State and their convincing win over Air Force.

We'll discuss how Syracuse freshman Joey Spallina fared as he scored his first goal wearing #22 for the Orange albeit he had a rough shooting day.

In this second episode of Lacrosse Lines, I'm going to talk about week one lines and bets that I'm taking and bets that I'm not going to touch.  As always, not betting or financial advice and only bet what you can afford to lose.

My upset pick of the week is Utah over Denver.  Denver is a -2.5 favorite in this one and I like Utah to EITHER cover the spread or to flat out win.  Full disclosure I took Denver at -2.5 (1 unit) the day these lines all came out, but after doing research I ended up taking Utah moneyline at -200 (3 units) because I think they are legit going to win this game by 1 or 2 goals.

Another "coming in hot" bet that I took was Jacksonville over Johns Hopkins.  I like Jacksonville at -115 (I think when I took Jax I got them at -125 or so).  I think this will be a 1 goal game, so I didn't like the spread either way on this one.

I also like Ohio State to cover the spread over Air Force on Saturday.  They have OSU as a -5.5 favorite and I think they will beat AF somewhere in the area of 6 to 10 goals by the end.

College lacrosse is officially upon us with a solid slate of early games. I'm going to start right off by talking about Syracuse trying to bounce back after a terrible show last season with Joey Spallina and their new look offense. Jacksonville is going to be looking to take that next step against Hopkins and actually pull off a win this time around. What will Maryland, Rutgers and Ohio State all do in their opening games and will it provide us any data useful in helping us determine what things may look like once Big Ten play starts?

Lacrosse season is almost upon us.  This upcoming Saturday we will have a near full slate of games to watch and entertain us.  My original plan was to preview those games today, but I’m going to do that Wednesday, and today I’m going to dive into more of a “full season preview” and make some predictions so I can look back and question my intelligence.\

Virginia is the clear favorite in the ACC.  Georgetown should have an easy time winning the Big East.  Conferences like the America East and the CAA are up for grabs and should be dog fights.  I like St. Bonaventure, Delaware, Saint Josephs, Jacksonville and more.  I'll talk about EVERY CONFERENCE and will pick a winner for their end of the season tournament.

In this first episode of Lacrosse Lines, I'm going to talk a bit about futures odds for college lacrosse and where I think the smarter money is. This will never be betting or financial advice.  I'm not telling you what college lacrosse games to bet on.  I'm just sharing my views on the odds and my own experiences as a terrible sports better.  This isn't not financial advice and never will be and never bet what you can't afford to lose.

But for me with the futures odds, I like the odds they put out for Virginia and Georgetown.  Virginia at +550 and Georgetown at +850 seemed pretty solid.  I think Maryland being named the odds on favorite is lunacy with them sitting at +400 and who decided Notre Dame was the second most likely team to win the title this year? The odds for Maryland and Notre Dame prove the oddsmakers have no idea what they are doing, not yet anyway.

So I took out a futures bet on Virginia and Georgetown as I personally feel they are the two most likely teams to win it all in 2023.

NOTE, in this episode I didn't talk about Cornell's odds because they weren't on my screen because I'm in New York.  But I also don't think they are going to win the title.  So in future episodes I'll be sure to include NY contests as well as today they left all NY teams off my screen because I'm in NY and NY lawmakers are morons.

Today's episode will bring my preseason top 20 poll coverage to an end.  We'll talk about my top 5 teams, listed here in no particular order so as to not ruin the surprise... Cornell, Maryland, Virginia, Georgetown and Princeton.

These teams all return huge names like Connor Shellenberger (Virginia), CJ Kirst (Cornell), Brett Makar (Maryland), Jake Stevens (Princeton) and Will Bowen (Georgetown).

I'm not convinced I got the order right, but I'll stand by my rankings for now and can't wait to adjust them after week one.  Enjoy!

Todays episode we’re going to talk about my #13, #12 and #11 picks, getting us ready for the episode this Sunday covering the top 10.  The season is close so I have to rip through these, and of all my picks so far, I’m really questioning two of them I’ll talk about today and may end up making an adjustment to my list before handing in my first poll.

#13 Denver: Denver was a team last season that fell victim to a new term I'm coining "schedule creep". This means some of the games you scheduled that would traditionally be wins ended up turning into more losses than expected due to your own issues mixed with teams simply being better than expected. 

#12 Brown: Brown had a “come to Jesus” moment and rattled off 6 straight wins to end the regular season.  They dropped Penn, Yale, Cornell, Bryant and Dartmouth over that stretch.  That got them into the Ivy League tournament where they lost to Penn in a rematch, but that was enough to get them into the NCAA tournament.

#11 Ohio State: I really like what I see on paper for Ohio State.  Jack Myers is one of the best five attackmen in the country in my opinion and the addition of LIU transfer Richie LaCalandra is going to go a long way in making sure Ohio State doesn’t lose a lot of steam offensively.

Continuing on with the LaxFactor College Lacrosse Division I Pre-Season Top 20, I’m ripping through #17, #16, #15 and #14 in today’s podcast/blog post.

Like Army, North Carolina has to deal with losing a guy that put up 6.3 million points in 2022, Chris Gray and many of his fellow top scorers for the Heels are also gone leaving a number of holes that must be plugged in order for UNC to stay ranked or better climb the rankings.

The more I dug into Boston University, the more I feel me putting them where I did is doing them dirty.  They bring back almost everyone from last years 12-5 squad that won the Patriot League tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Harvard has a roster makeup very much like Boston U’s.  They bring back almost everyone.  The big loss is last seasons starting goalie, Kyle Mullin departing to play for Rutgers in 2023.  But beyond losing their starting keeper their roster is looking pretty nice on paper in 2023.

A trend is developing in the middle of the pack here between 10 and 20.  All of the teams bunched together in this region of my poll bring back a boatload of talent and Delaware returns the best overall group of attackmen in the country.

In this episode I'll talk about legendary lacrosse coach Bill Tierney announcing his retirement after the 2023 college lacrosse season.  We'll also talk about USA Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason All-Americans for 2023.  Lastly, I'll do a run down of the NLL and PBLA action with a quick highlight of the Syracuse Spark's Skkylar Thomas as he has turned some heads in the Spark's first two losses of the season and has been a big bright spot for them.
