Today, like never before, people are questioning whether the Creator God of the Bible really exists and whether Jesus was truly God’s Son or simply an historical figure that lived in a small corner of the world 2,000 years ago. Those who follow Jesus are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth that others may see that Jesus is alive. So, how are we doing? Are we going the second mile and exemplifying Jesus to the world? Are we turning the other cheek? Are we loving others like Jesus does?
As we continue our journey though the Sermon on the Mount, we see that Jesus challenges us to walk in integrity. Today we will look at the importance of being people of our word, but more importantly, people of the WORD.
Last week, in part one of our teaching on marriage and divorce from the Sermon on the Mount, we learned three things that God wants us to understand about marriage. Today, we’ll tackle the emotionally charged subject of divorce, examine what Jesus teaches, and see why it is so important for us to listen to His words and practice what He says.
In the first book of the Bible, upon completing His creation, God saw only one thing that was not good: man was alone.
“The LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'” (Genesis 2:18)
God then took a part of Adam and created Eve. But then what? And now what? What does God want us to understand about marriage? What does he expect from those who are married? This morning we’ll attempt to find out.
Our journey through the Sermon on the Mount continues this week with Christ's powerful words on adultery, lust, and dealing radically with the issues of our hearts. Obeying the "letter of the law" is not enough to save someone. Christ calls all of us to repentance and a radical relationship with Him. In Him, can our hearts be healed and desires transformed? In Him, there is hope for the heartsick.
Anger. It’s a powerful emotion. Expressed in healthy ways, it can be productive and bring good and necessary changes. However, when uncontrolled, or misdirected, it has the power to hurt, crush, and demoralize. So what makes you angry? How do you handle it when you feel anger welling up within you?
Scripture actually has quite a lot to say to us about anger and how to properly handle it as we’ll see in this morning’s message based on Matthew 5:21-26
Have you ever felt like you don't measure up? All of us have experienced that in some area of our lives. Maybe it was in school, on the field, or in the workplace. The reality is that all of us fail to measure up to the righteousness that a holy God requires. So how can imperfect beings have a relationship with their Creator? It is only by what Jesus has done! Today, we will examine how Christ fulfilled the requirements of God's law, so we could be saved.
Light! Where would we be without it? In the beginning, God commanded it to come forth and dispel darkness and today the light of the Good News of Jesus Christ shines out to all dwelling in darkness. Christ is calling us to be carriers of His divine light to the world around us. It's time for you and I to turn up the lumens and let our lights shine!
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." - Matthew 5:10-12
The evidence is irrefutable. There is growing hostility around the world against those who follow Jesus Christ. But, this is to be expected. In light of persecution, how should we respond? What can we do? Today, let's get ready to stand up and stand firm for our Savior.
“Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!”
1 Chronicles 16:24
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of one day traveling the world, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to all I encountered. I distinctly remember one Sunday at church listening to all of the miraculous stories from different missionaries and how they were touching people’s lives and teaching the Gospel. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to be a missionary. I began to pray for God’s will, specifically towards missions and He confirmed in my heart that missions was definitely my calling.
God is good and has opened up the door for me to go on my first overseas mission’s trip to the Dominican Republic. The duration of the trip with last from July 7th to July 15th. It is here that I will be given the opportunity to witness to over 700 children and several hundred families. I’m so excited to see what God has in store for the Dominican people, the team, and myself.
I’m asking for your support, in whatever way possible. I believe that God is going to do some pretty amazing things in the Dominican Republic and it is through your prayers and support that I will be able to accomplish the plan that God has laid out for me! Throughout the week of my mission’s trip I ask that you would keep me in your thoughts and prayers! Thank you ahead of time for your support!
