Isabelle Rome is the senior official of gender equality at the French ministry of justice and has recently released a book about domestic violence, called “Liberté, égalité, survie”. She tells us about her career as a young female judge and the obstacle that her gender played in her life. We also talked about activism and the movement NousToutes, as well as the good news of a recent decline in femicides.
Joined by Alessandra and Rubaab, two of our performers for the Vagina Monologues, they share their thoughts on why they chose to perform and what they have in store for us as well as their personal opinions on gender-based violence and what needs to be done to put a stop to it. Gender-based violence comes in so many shapes and forms, and they explain how their experiences are part of a wider problem in our society, and why platforms like the Vagina Monologues are so important to generate discussions!
Léonor Guenoun is an activist working with the feminist collective NousToutes. This podcast discuss the ways Nous Toutes works to eradicate sexist and sexual violence in France, and the role of the government in dealing with the issue. It is also a wonderful introduction to activism. Leonor gives us much advice and insights on the way to become an activist, and empowers us to become proactive! We also discussed the #sciencesporcs polemic and how we can get involved as students and have our voices be heard.
VOICES week’s goal is to educate and raise awareness on gender based violence in our Sciences Po community. But all of the profits generated by our event will be donated to the non-profit AFFD. This organization is located in Le Havre and aims to provide shelter and assistance to women victims of violence. In this podcast we will speak with three employees of the organization, who will explain its functioning and give you insights on the role of nonprofits in fighting violence against women. Listen up and perhaps it will motivate you to become a volunteer with them as part of the partnership between AFFD and Voices Week.
VOICES Week is a student-run initiative on the Le Havre campus to end violence against all women (cisgender and transgender), those who hold fluid identities, nonbinary people, girls and the planet. But what is it all about, and what activities do we have planned for the rest of the week? Our series’ host, Sixtine Leonard, speaks to Pree and Janhvi, co-organisers of the initiative, as they share their motivations for organising this, what’s in store for the week and what they hope you take away from it. Listen up to find out what role you can play in the week.
