What if the belief holding you back isn't actually true?
In this episode of Lead From Within, Chris Severs sits down with longtime friend Jen Dickey, Philanthropy Advisor, New Thought Minister, and Author, for a powerful conversation about recovery, spirituality, limiting beliefs, purpose, and having the courage to question the stories we've accepted about ourselves.
Jen shares how her struggles with addiction eventually led her to Unity of Houston, where 12-step recovery and New Thought teachings helped transform the way she understood herself, her spirituality, and her personal power.
That journey eventually led Jen into ministry, even though becoming a minister was something she initially resisted.
Chris and Jen explore the beliefs we inherit from family, culture, childhood experiences, and difficult circumstances, and the importance of asking two deceptively simple questions:
"Is that true?"
and
"Why do I believe that?"
They also talk about asking for help, self-worth, mistakes, fear, and the stories we create about what we can and cannot do.
Jen shares a dream she's carried since sixth grade: writing a book. Yet self-doubt has kept her from fully pursuing it.
That leads Chris and Jen into a conversation about something almost everyone experiences when moving toward a bigger dream:
Fear.
Maybe courage isn't waiting until fear disappears.
Maybe sometimes we simply have to do it afraid.
Jen also shares her desire to become a motivational speaker and use her experiences in recovery and New Thought to help others recognize their own capacity for transformation.
At the center of the conversation is a simple reminder:
Your past may be part of your story, but it doesn't have to write your next chapter.
You are worthy of the dream that's calling you.
You don't have to accomplish everything today.
Question one belief.
Make one choice.
Take one courageous step.
And see where it leads.

What happens when a mother's determination meets a world that doesn't always recognize her child's potential?
In this episode of Lead From Within, Chris Severs welcomes Judy Blake, Community Outreach Liaison with Inner Light Community Advocates, for an inspiring conversation about motherhood, autism, resilience, advocacy, and creating opportunities for people with disabilities.
Judy shares her journey of raising her son Ryan, navigating his autism diagnosis at a time when resources were limited, and spending 26 years as a single mother advocating for his education, development, and future.
From difficult decisions about schooling to navigating employment opportunities, Judy discovered the importance of persistence, community support, and believing in her son's abilities.
She also shares Ryan's employment success at Steak 48, where support from a job coach and an understanding workplace helped create an opportunity for him to contribute and grow.
Chris and Judy discuss the importance of presuming competence, challenging assumptions about disabilities, teaching self-advocacy, and helping families discover resources they may not know are available.
Through her personal experiences and professional community outreach work, Judy offers a perspective on compassion, inclusion, and helping others create meaningful lives.
At the heart of this conversation is a reminder:
Don't let a diagnosis, circumstance, or someone else's assumptions determine what you believe is possible.
Sometimes changing a life begins with changing the way we
see another person.
Join Chris and Judy for a conversation about love, resilience, and recognizing the extraordinary potential in everyday people.

Music - pixabay.com / ikoliks_aj-background--music-320427What if the negative thoughts running through your mind aren't facts?
What if they're old stories you've simply practiced believing?
In this episode of Lead From Within, Chris Severs sits down with longtime friend Debbie Mack, a metaphysician, Reiki Master, A Course in Miracles facilitator, corporate instructional designer, and creator of Viva Divine, to explore awareness, conditioning, difficult emotions, scarcity, gratitude, and the mind-body connection.
Debbie shares a simple but powerful practice for working with difficult thoughts:
Take a breath. Notice what's happening. Listen without judgment. Then question the story.
Rather than fighting fear, doubt, or feelings of unworthiness, Debbie encourages us to become curious about where those thoughts originated and whether they still deserve a place in our lives.
Chris and Debbie also explore the younger parts of ourselves that may still be influencing our reactions today. Debbie describes connecting with the "little girl" behind some of her emotions, while Chris shares his own experience of recognizing "Little Chris" and "Big Chris."
The conversation also touches on depression, gratitude, the mind-body connection, and Debbie's continuing work around old beliefs of lack and scarcity.
Neither suggests ignoring difficult circumstances or physical symptoms. Instead, they explore what we might learn by paying attention to our thoughts and emotions while also seeking appropriate professional support when needed.
At the heart of their conversation is one powerful idea:
A thought can feel true without being the truth.
And once we become aware of an old pattern, we have an opportunity to choose differently.
So the next time a familiar negative thought appears, pause and ask:
Where did this come from? Is it true? And do I still want to believe it?
You may discover that you're not broken at all.
You're conditioned. And conditioning can change.

What do you do when you can't find hope within yourself?
Sometimes, you borrow it from someone else until you can carry it again.
In this heartfelt episode of Lead From Within, Chris Severs sits down with Rev. Cindy Cline, Associate Minister at Unity of Houston, to explore the thoughts and beliefs that help us move through life's most difficult seasons.
Cindy introduces the idea of life-giving versus life-depleting thoughts and explains why hope doesn't require us to pretend everything is okay. Sometimes hope simply reminds us that what we're experiencing today is temporary and that another possibility may exist beyond what we can currently see.
Chris and Cindy explore what it means to reach out when we're struggling, allow others to hold hope for us, and take the next small step when looking too far ahead feels overwhelming.
Cindy also shares the profound lessons in compassion she learned while helping care for her sister following a devastating accident that left her paralyzed.
Their conversation explores faith, forgiveness, disappointment, personal growth, and the freedom that can come when we stop labeling every unexpected outcome a failure.
Sometimes the lesson is hidden inside what didn't go according to plan.
Sometimes the answer is "this or something better."
And sometimes our only job is to take the next step and trust the process.
If you're facing uncertainty, disappointment, or a season when hope feels difficult to find, this episode is a reminder:
You don't always have to carry hope alone.

It will be a collection of funny, unusual, and sometimes unbelievable stories that have happened throughout my lifetime. My goal is to provide a safe, welcoming place where people can explore new ideas, ask questions, and discover what resonates with them without being told what they must believe.I have just released You Know the Way Back, a guided mindfulness audio series designed to help people pause, breathe, reset, and reconnect with themselves throughout the day. What do science, spirituality, gratitude, forgiveness, and a "Redneck Hippie Nerd" have in common?
More than you might think.
In this episode of Lead From Within, Chris Severs sits down with Tanya Hulett, an educator, tutor, wellness facilitator, and proudly self-described Redneck Hippie Nerd who brings together curiosity, practicality, spirituality, and a lifelong love of science.
Chris and Tanya explore how mindset and perception influence the way we experience our lives, why gratitude can help redirect our attention, and what we can learn when we stop taking everything personally.
They also dive into forgiveness, personal responsibility, self-acceptance, and one of Tanya's most practical approaches to overcoming perfectionism:
Live in "draft mode."
What if everything didn't have to be perfect before you moved forward?
What if you could try, learn, revise, and try again?
And what if some of life's most difficult experiences aren't simply things to get through, but opportunities to discover something about ourselves?
This is a wide-ranging, thoughtful, and sometimes playful conversation about becoming more curious about the thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives shaping our lives.
Because leading from within doesn't mean having all the answers.
Sometimes it means becoming willing to ask a better question.
You are not broken. You are conditioned. And conditioning can change.
Who is Chris Severs, and why did he create Lead From Within?
In this special solo episode, Chris shares the personal journey that took him from severe depression, perfectionism, and feeling without purpose to discovering a completely different way of thinking and living.
At the center of that transformation was one powerful realization:
"You are not broken. You are conditioned."
Chris explores how the beliefs and thought patterns we develop throughout our lives can quietly shape the way we see ourselves and what's possible for our future. More importantly, he shares how we can begin changing them.
You'll learn two of the practices that became foundational in Chris's own transformation:
"Notice what you're noticing."
Become aware of the thoughts you're thinking and whether they're moving you toward or away from the life you want.
"What would I love?"
Instead of allowing fear, circumstances, or old conditioning to determine what's possible, begin creating a vision for the life you genuinely want.
Chris also shares what Lead From Within really means and why he created this show to bring together practical mindset tools and authentic stories of people who have transformed their lives.
If you've ever felt stuck, wondered whether it's too late to change, or questioned whether something was wrong with you, this conversation is for you.
You are not broken. You are conditioned. And conditioning can change.
