S4E3: Richmond's Got Talent — Life Is a Series of Chances
The Lady Greyhounds are starting to feel like a real team.
But building something new isn't easy.
In Season 4, Episode 3 — “Richmond's Got Talent” — AFC Richmond needs a striker, the Higgins Report is causing trouble, a sponsor gets cold feet, Keeley's kits are nowhere to be found, and the Richmond faithful aren't exactly embracing change.
Sounds like a leadership challenge to us.
This week, we explore one of the episode's biggest ideas:
Life is a series of chances.
Richmond takes a chance on a women's team. Ted takes a chance on Shannon. Ted takes a chance on Alice. Alice takes a chance on Gemma. Gemma takes another chance on football. And Rebecca has to convince Pinter & Sons to take another chance on Richmond.
But that raises an interesting leadership question:
When is believing in someone leadership—and when does it become favoritism?
We also dig into:
- Why the launch of Richmond Women's FC is really a lesson in change management
- Keeley's powerful line: “Women don't get friendlies. We either succeed or fail.”
- Psychological safety and giving people room to fail
- Why no communication can sometimes be worse than bad communication
- Rebecca texting Keeley vs. showing up face-to-face for Pinter & Sons
- Alice and Gemma—and the leadership difference between intent and impact
- Why treating everyone the same isn't necessarily the same as leading everyone well
- Keeley's lesson in mentorship, ownership and asking for help
- Roy Kent's growth—and the glorious one-page Jones Report
- Susan Boyle, Gemma and one perfectly constructed piece of foreshadowing
- Shannon's return to Richmond
- The changing Ted–Alice–Beard coaching dynamic
- Work-life balance and the growing pressure on Rebecca
And, of course, predictions.
Is Lizzie our future captain?
Are Beard and Alice becoming...a thing?
What does Roy's expiring contract mean?
Are Roy and Keeley finally headed back toward each other?
And Nick is doubling down on his long-term Ted + Rebecca prediction.
We could be brilliant. We could be completely wrong. That's the fun of watching Season 4 in real time.
Stay curious. Stay kind. And always keep leading it like Lasso.
