Who Do You Think You Are?

Leaders: Is it better to be loved or feared?

Listen Later

“And here comes in the question whether it is better to be loved rather than feared, or feared rather than loved. It might perhaps be answered that we should wish to be both; but since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved.”

This famous quote is powerful at face value. It’s also powerful to consider why then we still often choose to be loved over being feared even though it is in fact less safe. So, in the world of power, it is safer to be feared. Although in the end it is silly to lead with fear only. To be loved is less safe, but we are willing to risk it with the ones whom we love. For the thematic purposes of this book, I also like this quote: “Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are.”

This podcast focuses on self-exploration and personal identity -- to help you construct who you are, and how you want to feel, think, believe, and behave for yourself.
