  • 256: Ask Denis: How to Stay Focused on Your Goals

Continuing our series on goals, let’s talk about focus! How have your goals been going? See, more and more noise is coming out of the market every year, distracting us from what we want to achieve. Before you know it, you could be at the end of Q1 without having met any goals! In this episode, we’ll identify our distractors, learn how to stay focused on our goals, and keep a growth mindset.

    On this episode:

    • Leaders are in danger of being distracted by the newest, shiniest object in the market. I talk about how to rise above the noise and stay dedicated to your goals.
    • What do I do to stay focused? It all stems from one question: is what I’m doing right now getting me closer to my goal? I talk about figuring out what is serving your goal and staying in a growth mindset.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Some goals can continue from the previous year
    • Noise in the market can steal your focus
    • The example of FEAR: false evidence appearing real
    • Ask yourself, Is what you’re doing right now serving your goal?
    • Stop doing anything that is not getting you closer to your goal
    • Keep yourself in the growth mindset by always learning

  • 253: Ask Denis: The Power of Routines

Over the past couple of Ask Denis episodes, we’ve been talking heavily about goals. How are your goals going so far for 2022? Here's a secret, people who are constantly reaching their goals all have one thing in common: they set up routines, and follow them up with discipline.

If you want to learn how to set your year up for success, dive in, and let’s unpack the power of routines.

    On this episode:

    • Forget about the New Year’s resolutions, it’s time to set up a routine for long-term success. I give an in-depth look into the example of Ryan Serhant’s routines and why they work so well.
    • How do you handle ambiguity? I talk about the value of setting up your rituals to be simple and easy to follow and how to follow them up with discipline.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Routines are better than resolutions
    • Rituals set your day, month, and year up for success
    • Make your routines simple but effective
    • It comes down to D.F.C. - discipline, focus, and consistency
    • Anything good comes with work - do what is right for you
    • Leaders are tired, it’s time to come together and help each other

“By having routines… THAT is what’s going to set your day up for success - in fact, it’s going to set your month up for success and year up for success.” - Denis Gianoutsos

  • 250: Ask Denis: How to Celebrate Milestones

I’m sure you’ve heard by now in your leadership journey that it’s important to celebrate your wins, but are we doing it correctly? While leaders are running from task to task, I find often that too many don’t pause to recognize their milestones. In this episode, I want to talk about taking stock, reflecting, and celebrating the incredible accomplishments, big or small, that you and your teams are achieving.

Jump into this Ask Denis 250th episode, and let’s talk about how to celebrate milestones.

    On this episode:

    • I explain the three big questions to ask yourself during times of reflection: what went well? What could we have done differently? And, what will we do differently going forward?
    • When we take time out to recognize others’ wins, it’s incredible what can happen. I share a story of the impact authenticity can have on celebrating people's achievements.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Take time to pause and take stock of your progress
    • You don’t have to budget time to celebrate
    • A simple “thank you” goes a long way
    • Recognition needs to be authentic
    • Let it become a regular occurrence
    • A big thank you to everyone who has helped shape this show

    Tweetable Quotes:

“If you can [celebrate milestones] on a regular basis, then you should do that… Be mindful, be aware of when you’re recognizing people.” - Denis Gianoutsos

  • 247: Ask Denis: Is It Too Late To Set Goals?

The new year is here but is it too late to set ourselves up for success now that we’re over the line? Before you go on to the episode, just breathe, relax, it’s all good. Yes, time is moving fast but, in this episode, I’m going to talk about how we can still set goals for the year. The ship hasn’t set sail, but the best time to is now!

No need to put it off any longer. Jump into the episode and let’s build some momentum and set up some goals.

    On this episode:

    • I explain how it’s not too late, but that NOW is the time to set goals because you will be getting busy soon now that the year is just starting to ramp up again.
    • There is a difference between New Year’s resolutions and setting goals. Resolutions are easily broken (if you don’t have the resolve) but goals call for real action. I remind us of the reflection questions and how to look forward through plan and action.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Things will start getting busy, don't put off setting goals
    • You need to start building momentum as early as possible
    • There is a difference between New Year’s resolutions and setting goals.
    • Set 3 Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs)
    • Go ahead and set new goals once you finish one
    • Plan AND action, just getting started can have a massive impact
