Chris White kicked off this message talking about how IBM got a second chance under Lou Gerstner’s leadership. God wants to give every man who is repentant a second chance.

Obedience to the word of God, Jonah obeys the word of the Lord and goes to Nineveh.

When the Ninevites heard the word of the Lord from Jonah, they believed God, everyone of the citizens repented and humbled himself before God. A total miracle of grace. Grass roots.

When the king of Nineveh heard God’s warning, he led the whole community in humble acts of repentance. Who knows what God could do with us individually and even nationally if we repent?

The people of Nineveh under the king’s leadership repented and when God saw this, He had compassion on them. They experienced His forgiving mercy. Jonah 3:10 OR: When God sees the Ninevites turn from their evil ways, He has compassion on them. Good discussion of “Compassion.”

Jonah is an angry man. He is angry about God’s compassion toward the Ninevites. But, his prayer teaches us about anger management.

What is it that makes Jonah happy? For the first time he is happy. Is it the provision of God that makes Jonah happy, makes us happy? Or is it the Provider that makes us happy?

God loves us so much, is so concerned that we continue to be conformed to the image of his Son that he may take away things that we have grown to have an inordinate affection for.

God uses the rapid creation and destruction of the vine which protected Jonah to show him his short term thinking! People have eternal significance.
