In our second sport leadership podcast we will explore what makes a good leader and the skills needed to make an impact. We’ll be speaking to some of our female leaders within the sport industry for their insight, advice and delving into some of the challenges and opportunities along the way. On this months panel we welcome: Katie Story (Head of Sport at Northumbria University), Clare Morley (CEO for Rise North-East), Jenny Morris (Director of Delivery at BUCS) and ClaireMcDougall-Robinson (FA Women’s High Performance Coach Development Officer).
Your VP Sport Rory discusses with two of our Netballs players Tabitha and Molly about their upcoming marathon (26/02/2021). They discuss their reasons for deciding to do a marathon for Young Minds and what the impact Young Minds have on young peoples lives. Tabitha & Molly discuss how the current pandemic has impacted their time playing netball and how they have worked around this.
In the third episode of Rorys Volunteer Showcase, he speaks to Aubrey our Clean Sport Intern. In this podcast they discuss the use of supplements within Sport, alongside some surprising facts about supplements. Aubrey talks about the best places to find information about supplements and how she has helped spread education to our student athletes this year. Aubrey originally from the USA talks about how her experience as an intern in the US difference to being an Intern in the UK, including having more control over her opportunity.
In the 2nd of Rorys Volunteer Showcase Series he speaks with our Nutrition intern Terese. Within this podcast Terese discusses her time as a nutrition intern at Northumbria Sport, alongside giving some tips on nutrition and how this experience will help other people who are interested in the role. During Terese's internship she worked alongside industry specialists in order to create nutrition plans for students, she explains how she adapted to the changing envirionment caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic and the skills shes gained from this.
In the first of Rorys volunteer showcase series, he will be interviewing our volunteer Elise. In this podcast they discuss her role as a Social Sport Activator, Zambia Volunteer and her work as a Clean Sport Intern. Elise discusses how volunteering at Northumbria gave her transferable skills such as adaptability during the Covid 19 Pandemic, and adjusting her daily routines to fit to a new schedule.

During their zoom reunion they reflect on their time at Northumbria as volunteers, interns and sport club members and discuss how their experiences opened up opportunities, created resilience and gave them a lifelong community.
