📅 Thursday, October 29, 2026
🌟 MEET OUR GUEST
From serving our nation as a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer in the cryptologic community to becoming an internationally recognized cybersecurity strategist, researcher, author, and Zero Trust thought leader, Chief Cunningham exemplifies the intersection of MILITARY SERVICE, STRATEGIC INNOVATION, LIFELONG LEARNING & LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE.
A former Forrester Vice President and Principal Analyst, Chase helped advance enterprise Zero Trust adoption through the Zero Trust eXtended (ZTX) framework. Today, his research explores the security and governance challenges of autonomous AI agents, while his books challenge conventional thinking about cyber warfare and organizational leadership.
📚 We'll also explore two of his thought-provoking books:
✨ Cyber Warfare: Truth, Tactics, and Strategies — Understanding adversaries, cyber conflict, operational readiness, and strategic decision-making.
✨ How Not to Lead: Lessons Every Manager Can Learn from Dumpster Chickens, Mushroom Farmers, and Other Office Offenders — Recognizing dysfunctional leadership, building trust, and learning from management failures.
🎯 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN…
✨ How Navy service and earning the Chief's anchors shaped Chase's leadership philosophy.
✨ Why STRATEGY MUST DRIVE TECHNOLOGY, especially in Zero Trust cybersecurity.
✨ What military cyber warfare teaches corporate leaders about risk, readiness, and resilience.
✨ Why TIME, TRUST & RESPECT are essential leadership currencies.
✨ How to recognize destructive management behaviors, including brilliant jerks and mushroom farmers.
✨ Why autonomous AI agents require identity, accountability, delegated authority, and continuous verification.
✨ How curiosity, courage, mentorship, and lifelong learning sustain professional success.
💡 THE BIG IDEA: CYBERSECURITY IS ABOUT DEFENDING SYSTEMS. LEADERSHIP IS ABOUT DEVELOPING PEOPLE. ORGANIZATIONAL RESILIENCE REQUIRES BOTH.

🌟 MEET MY GUEST
Chris brings a remarkable combination of public safety experience, tactical leadership, cybersecurity expertise, and executive business acumen.
From high-stakes SWAT operations to leading enterprise cybersecurity programs, Chris has built a career around protecting people, strengthening organizations, developing teams, and managing risk.
As a three-time CISO and Founder of FYR Cyber, he champions practical cybersecurity, operational excellence, AI governance, and business-aligned security strategies.
He is also the author of SWAT Team Skills for IT and Cybersecurity Leaders, a field manual translating tactical principles into actionable leadership lessons.
As a fellow CISO and U.S. Navy Information Warfare Commander, I'm particularly excited to explore how Chris's tactical experiences shaped his approach to leadership.
🎯 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN…
✨ How Chris transitioned from SWAT operations to becoming a three-time CISO.
✨ Why preparation, situational awareness, and discipline are essential to leading under pressure.
✨ How the principle “SLOW IS SMOOTH, SMOOTH IS FAST” applies to cybersecurity incident response.
✨ Why “TWO IS ONE, ONE IS NONE” is a powerful lesson in operational resilience.
✨ How leaders build trust, develop high-performing teams, and create cultures of accountability.

✨ How AI governance and emerging technologies are reshaping executive leadership.
✨ What Chris has learned from professional setbacks, mentors, and his journey from tactical operator to entrepreneur.
GREAT LEADERSHIP IS NOT DEFINED BY HOW WE PERFORM WHEN EVERYTHING GOES RIGHT. IT IS REVEALED BY HOW WE PREPARE, RESPOND, AND LEAD WHEN EVERYTHING GOES WRONG.

S5:E207🎙️LIVE with COL Herman “Jay” Johnson, USA (Ret.)
LEADERSHIP & SUCCESS PODCAST WITH COACH BZ | SEASON 5 | EPISODE 207
🇺🇸🪂 FROM ENLISTED SOLDIER TO ARMY COLONEL: GENERATIONAL COURAGE, THE BURDEN OF COMMAND, BROTHERHOOD & THE LEGACY OF SERVICE
I am honored to welcome COL Herman “Jay” Johnson, USA (Ret.) for an extraordinary conversation about 34 years of military service, leadership, sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring power of LEGACY.
📅 Thursday, October 22, 2026
🪖 MEET OUR DISTINGUISHED GUEST
At just 17 years old, Jay entered the U.S. Army, initially resenting his father's insistence that he embrace military discipline. That decision would ultimately transform his life.
Over 34 years, he rose from ENLISTED SOLDIER TO ARMY COLONEL, commanding thousands of Paratroopers in the legendary 82nd Airborne Division, supporting Special Operations, and culminating his distinguished military career as Chief of Staff, Joint Staff J-4, at the Pentagon.
His decorations include the Legion of Merit and multiple Bronze Star Medals. Today, he continues serving as Vice President of Business Development at BOH Solutions.
But Jay's story extends far beyond rank and accomplishments.
🎖️ A FATHER'S HEROISM: His father, SSG Herman C. Johnson, received the Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster for TWO separate acts of heroism in Vietnam in December 1969—courage that helped shape his son's understanding of leadership.
🕊️ A FALLEN BROTHER'S LEGACY: Jay continues honoring CPT Hayes “Butta” Clayton Jr., his military and fraternity brother, killed in Iraq on Christmas Day 2006. His memorial bracelet carries the Omega Psi Phi motto: FIETTS—Friendship Is Essential To The Soul.
💡 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN…
✨ How discipline, mentorship, and adversity can transform a young person's destiny.
✨ What it takes to lead thousands of Soldiers while balancing mission accomplishment with their welfare.
✨ Why anticipating logistical requirements is essential to operational readiness and strategic leadership.
✨ How a father's courage and a fallen brother's sacrifice shape a lifetime of service.
✨ Lessons from transitioning military command into corporate executive leadership.
✨ Why CHARACTER, not rank or medals, ultimately defines our legacy.
RANK IS TEMPORARY. CHARACTER IS ENDURING. LEGACY IS WHAT WE LEAVE IN OTHERS.
