What is the single greatest gift you can give your children?

I don’t think it’s a toy that will break.

I don’t think it’s a game they will get bored with.

I don’t think it’s a run of the mill education that keeps them average.

I don’t think it’s a stack of money, a fancy house or a snazzy super car.

I am convinced the greatest two fold gift a parent can give their children is WORK ETHIC combined with FAITH!

Faith is crucial. Faith without work is dead. Work without work ethic is slothfulness - laziness - that leads to destruction.

If you plan to share in the food in my house, you better plan to share in the WORK. It has been the understanding of my kids (now grown) since they were toddlers.

Never underestimate the impact your thinking has on your physical health.

When you are stressed out hormones rage through your body. When you allow your thoughts to “meditate” on or ruminate in those thoughts, they multiply.

Here’s the challenge. You might think, “I am not even thinking about that!” Or “I haven’t thought about that for months or even years.” However the subconscious mind is still considering it. Its still focusing on it. It’s still raging with brain chemicals and hormones in the body.

If you want to live a healthier life this year, you must begin with a healthy thought life. Be intentional about what you choose to think and be aware of what your thinking beneath the surface. Not controlling can literally kill you. Imagine a panic attack or cardiac arrest. Most people can’t tell them apart even as they are experiencing them.

Think good thoughts!

Make good choices.

Of all the things one should be as a leader - RELEVANT still stands.

As we wrap up 2018 and move toward the new year, many question run through our minds about accomplishment and failure in the last year.

I challenge you to insert your own reflections - What 5 questions are you asking to better position yourself in the coming year.

In other words, relevant.

Let me ask again the three questions I believe should shape your life and mine. Ask them daily as a barometer or course correction to stay on track for a great 2019.

1. What do you want?

2. Who is your heart broken for? (Felt need)

3. What solution can you offer them? (Met need)

Answer these in 15 words or less and you are on to something.

Is influence an investment with risk and reward or a free gift to all comers?

The sower of seeds is not responsible for the condition of the ground, are they?

The harvester of pearls can possibly be held responsible for the size of the pearl, can they?

Should the fig tree be punished for being fruitless in the spring?

Here’s the truth. We are all responsible for how we handle what we have been given to work with. We are also responsible for how were use, what we have been given to work with.

There were historically 5,000 men and their families who gathered around a teach for a day or two to learn from him. The next day they showed up again. When he asked something difficult of them, all but 12 turned and walked away. Sure, he offered something to all of them. He invested in all 5,000 plus.

But when it came to giving the very best of himself and his insights. He personal and intimate knowledge, even the twelve were whittled to three.

Where you “throw the seed of influence” is a stewardship issue. Who you choose to give your best knowledge and hard earned wisdom matters.

One of the hardest aspects of being a leader is choosing whom you will invest in.

Many people claim to want opportunities to learn, to grow, to advance themselves or their careers.

Truth #1 is the Pareto principle still applies. 20% of the people you invest in will yield 80% of the results. 80% of the people you invest in as a leader will yield no results.

Truth #2 is the 80% didn’t really want the change or transformation needed in their life to achieve the results they seek, they just want someone else they can blame for not achieving them. Now they have YOU.

Truth #3 is the 20% probably knew some of what they needed to do to reach the next level, but they needed someone to believe in them and prove it by investing in them.

If you can determine early on who is in which category, you can save yourself much heartache and wasted time.

Lead with a clear understanding of your goals and your ideal avatar.

Creating opportunities for others is the work of a true leader.

Recently I met a gentleman who is doing just that.
