Christians are often defeated in everyday life because they fail to fully grasp the spiritual power that is available to them from the Father by virtue of the gift of the holy spirit. People often ask the question, "What is the difference between a true prophet and a person who is a false prophet? At times people have pointed to Jeremiah 2:9 where it says a false prophets words don't come to pass but as true prophets do. In this teaching Dan demonstrates how we can discern a true prophet from a false prophet by showing that at times there is a conditional nature to prophecy.

In the Old Testament prophets played a very dominant role in God's dealings with mankind. In the New Testament we also see that Prophets are listed as one of the equipping ministries but does this mean that new and Old Testament prophets play the same role. In this teaching Dan Gallagher shows that the answer is both yes and now. In the Old Testament only a few chosen individuals had holy spirit upon them, whereas now in the New Testament because of the saving work of Christ all who are converted receive the gift of holy spirit. All who have the gift can prophesy at times but this does not mean a person has the ministry of a prophet. Dan clarifies what clearly distinguishes prophets from the rest of the members of the Body of Christ.

The prophetic ministry is very active today in the Body of Christ, and just as there are many blessings that flow from it, so too there can be many difficulties when it is not properly understood. This teaching is the second in a series of episodes intended to help people learn more about the prophetic ministry, what it is and what it is not, and also how to best honor it and employ godly safeguards to prevent spiritual problems. This episode provides a longer answer on exactly what a prophet is.
