Learn About Immigration in Dane County

Listen Later

The Dane County League of Women Voters is holding an in-depth public forum on Dane County immigration issues on Tuesday September 9th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend the forum either in the auditorium of the First Unitarian Society on University Bay Drive or online via Zoom.
This trusted, nonpartisan community organization has invited three local experts on immigration and migrant communities to speak on what we all need to know and they will be available to answer questions and expand on their presentations.
Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Founding Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera and Voces de la Frontera Action, will outline the process of immigrating to the U.S.
Armando Ibarra, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the School for Workers and Chican@ and Latin@ Studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss immigrants’ vital role in our local economy.
Aissa Olivarez, Managing Attorney at the Community Immigration Law Center (CILC), will detail how immigrants are protected under the law.
Our immigration process is obviously broken and needs to be rebuilt to address the current needs of both our country and of people who need and want to immigrate to it. It will be through discussions like this one that we can begin the necessary rebuilding.
Gil Halsted talked with Jane Collins, a League of Women Voters member who worked to put together the forum on WORT’s World View.
