Explanation of Imaam Nawawi's 40 Hadeeth read by Abu Humayd Saalim, utilising the explanation of Shaykh Fawzaan with benefits from other Scholars such as Shaykh Uthaymeen

Continuing with the book Arba’oon An-Nawawi (40 hadeeth) by Imaam Nawawi, Ustaadh Abu Humayd Saalim comes to the third hadeeth, where the Prophet (Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) explained how Islam is built upon five (recorded in Bukhari and Muslim), narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar. Abu Humayd narrates a brief description about the son of the companion Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab, Abdullah Ibn Umar. Abu Humayd also narrates the difference between this hadeeth and the previous hadeeth of Jibreel, as both narrations mention the five pillars of Islaam; and the pillars of Eemaan.

Benefits include: the conditions of the shahada (testimony of faith), some of the companions of the Messenger of Allaah (Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) that were guaranteed paradise, the usage of the term ‘kunya’ and ‘RadiAllahu Anhuma’ (May Allaah be pleased with both of them); the reason why one of the companions of the Messenger of Allaah (Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam)- Thaabit stayed in his home for a number of days, weeping day and night after the revelation of a verse from the Quran; and the pillars of Eemaan.

Ustaadh Abu Humayd (May Allaah preserve him) begins the series by speaking about Imaam Nawawi, his background, the different sciences he was an Imaam in and the books he authored, such as Riyaadh Ul-Saaliheen. The speaker then explains why the actual number of ahadeeth within the book do not add up to 40 in total, as may be suggested from the title of the book.

Abu Humayd also speaks about the benefit and virtue of memorising and acting upon 40 hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (Salallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). This talk also discusses the story of the companion of the Messenger of Allaah (Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam), Umar Ibn Al Khattaab and how Umar went to the Prophet (Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) wanting to kill him and then changed his mind.
