Surah Al-Ma’idah (ٱلمائدة) is the 5th chapter of the Qur’an. The surah titled in English means “The Table Spread” and it consists of 120 verses.
The theme of Surah Al-Ma'idah includes animals that are prohibited, Jesus and Moses’ missions, and other issues. The surah’s central theme is spiritual guidance. This entire universe is the creation of Allah. This surah describes “Hajj”, and its comprehensive code of ethics.
To define legal and illegal food substances, a clear set of guidelines was established. There are guidelines for ablution, bathing and cleanliness, and ablution using dirt, among other practices. The penalties of theft, rebellion, and killing the peace of people have been stated in this surah.
"This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
