Arabic:
اللّهُـمَّ عافِـني في بَدَنـي ، اللّهُـمَّ عافِـني في سَمْـعي ، اللّهُـمَّ عافِـني في بَصَـري ، لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْـتَ
Transliteration:
Allahumma afini fi badani, Allahumma afini fi sam’i, Allahumma afini fi basari La ilaha illa anta.
English:
O Allah, grant me well-being in my body. O Allah, grant me well-being in my hearing. O Allah, grant me well-being in my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You.
Benefits:
The companion Abu Bakrah, narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) recite this supplication three times in the morning and three times in the evening.
By asking Allah to grant us bodily and spiritual well-being, we are asking that we be cured of all physical and spiritual ailments, so that we have both a healthy body and a pure heart, and that we use this healthy body in a way that pleases Allah.
Although vision and hearing are both bodily senses, they have been singled out due to their critical relevance.
Because these two senses are direct paths to our heart, we want them to be pure in order to ensure that our heart only receives what is pure and good.
The heart is a vital organ that impacts the entire body both now and in the future.
The Prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said that if the heart is sound, the entire body is sound; if the heart is corrupted, the entire body is corrupted.
By completing the first part of the supplication by asserting that none is worthy of worship except Allah, we are reminding ourselves why we want this well-being in the first place, and that is so that we use it to worship Allah.
