Surah Yunus (يونس‎) is the 10th chapter of the Qur’an. The surah titled in English means “Jonah” pertaining to the Prophet Jonah, and it consists of 109 verses.

The Surah was revealed to provide a counter argument to some of the sentiments that existed during Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) time. Specifically, the Meccan idolaters believed the Qur’an was fabricated and questioned its integrity as being divine or sacred. They mockingly refer to Muhammad (ﷺ) as “sorcerer” or “magician” in verse 2. The surah warns them of the affliction that awaits should they not change their ways.

The mention of Prophet Yunus is in verse 93 which served as an example of a group of people who were saved because they heeded the warning. Unlike the communities of Musa, Lut, and Nuh (as) who all perished. This is to show the mercy that await those who follow the right path, it’s not too late to seek guidance and accept the truth.

In this insightful speech by Nouman Ali Khan, we explore the powerful story of how Pharaoh attempted to use the children of the Israelites to defeat Prophet Moses. As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that even the mightiest of tyrants cannot succeed when Allah is not on their side. Pharaoh's sinister plan ultimately crumbled as Allah's support always rests with those who stand against oppression. This captivating narrative serves as a timeless reminder that no matter the trials and tribulations faced by the oppressed, their perseverance and faith will be rewarded, for Allah is forever with the oppressed.
