Димитър Димов

Димитър Димов е един от най-известните български писатели-новелисти в българската история. Той е новелист и драматург, а също така и ветеринарен хирург. Той започва работа в Софийския университет като професор по ветеринарна медицина през 1939 г. По-късно отива на работа в Мадридския университет, където се сприятелява с прочутия испански писател Едуардо Зунига.

Димов е най-известен с романа си"Тютюн", публикуван за пръв път през 1951 г. Няколко години по-късно му се налага да го коригира поради силния идеологически натиск, оказан върху него от страна на българските литературни критици. Обществената мисъл по времето но Димов се ръководи главно от социализма, така че корекциите включват добавянето на образи от работническата класа, също комунисти.

"Тютюн" е разказ за един човек от малък град, който решава, че трябва да се издигне по социално-класовата стълба, колкото е възможно по-бързо. Той скъсва с приятелката си и се жени за дъщерята на богат собственик на фабрика. След като свекър му почива, жена му се побърква и той поема управлението на фабриката. Към работниците се отнася напълно безжалостно. В един момент се опитва да сключи сделка с бившата си приятелка, която с течение на времето го намразва заради всичко, което е направил.

Другите произведения на Димов включват "Лейтенант Бенц" и "Осъдени души". Освен тях той написва и няколко пиеси, включително "Жени с минало" и "Почивка в Арко Ирис".

Dimitar Dimov

Dimitar Dimov was one of the most well-known novelists in all of Bulgarian history. He was a novelist and dramatist, as well as a veterinary surgeon. In fact, he worked at Sofia University as a veterinary professor starting in 1939. Later he went on to work at Madrid University, where he became important in the history of Spain as well and became friends with the famous Spanish author Eduardo Suniga.

Dimov is most well-known for his book Tobacco, which was originally published in 1951. He ended up having to revise it a few years later because of intense ideological pressure put on him by the Bulgarian literary critics. Public thought during Dimov's day was ruled largely by socialism, so his revisions included the addition of characters who belonged to the working class and who were also Communists.

Tobacco was the story of a small town man who decided that he wanted to rise through the social classes as quickly as possible. He dumps his girlfriend and instead weds the daughter of a wealthy factory owner. After his father-in-law's death, his wife becomes mentally ill and he takes over the operation of the factory. He becomes absolutely ruthless in his treatment of the factory workers. Eventually he tries to work out a deal with his former girlfriend, and over time, she comes to hate him for everything he has done.

Other works by Dimov include Lieutenant Benz and Doomed Souls. He also wrote a few plays, including Women with a Past and Holiday in Arko Iris.
