Svátek svatého Štěpána se v České republice slaví 26. prosince.

Tento den se označuje jako druhý svátek vánoční.

Svátek svatého Štěpána je v České republice oficiálním státním svátkem, takže jsou zavřené školy a úřady.

Sv. Štěpán byl vybrán a vysvěcen Kristovými apoštoly.

K jeho povinnostem patřila starost o chudé a o starší vdovy v kostele.

Byl považován za prvního diákona v křesťanské církvi.

Sv. Štěpán byl také nadaný veřejný řečník a evangelista.

Pomáhal hlavně helénistickým konvertitům, protože se věřilo, že apoštolové mají s nimi potíže komunikovat.

Sv. Štěpán byl obviněn z rouhání a musel předstoupit před Sanhedrin.

Obvinil Židy, že zavraždili Ježíše. Tímto rozzuřil Sanhedrin.

Sv. Štěpán poté pokračoval tvrzením, že viděl stát Ježíše na pravé ruce Boha.

To bylo považováno za vrchol rouhání.

Rozzuřený dav ho vyvedl za město a ukamenoval k smrti.

Sv. Štěpán se stal prvním křesťanským mučedníkem.

V minulosti mnoho lidí v České republice slavilo Svátek svatého Štěpána tak, že chodili od domu k domu a zpívali vánoční koledy.

Klasická vánoční koleda „Dobrý král Václav" dokonce zmiňuje štěpánskou hostinu.

Tato tradice odpadla a nyní většina lidí tráví Svátek svatého Štěpána doma a odpočívá se svými rodinami.

St. Stephen's Day, also known as the Feast of St. Stephen, is celebrated on December 26 in the Czech Republic.

It is considered to be the second day of Christmas.

St. Stephen's Day is an official public holiday in the Czech Republic, so schools and offices are closed.

St. Stephen was chosen and ordained by the Apostles of Christ.

His duties were to care for the poor and the elderly widows in the church.

He was considered to be the first deacon in the Christian church.

St. Stephen was also a gifted public speaker and evangelist.

He ministered largely to the Hellenistic converts, since it was believed that the Apostles had difficulty communicating with them.

St. Stephen was accused of blasphemy and had to go before the Sanhedrin.

He accused the Jewish people of murdering Jesus, enraging the Sanhedrin.

St. Stephen then went on to claim that he could see Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

This was considered to be the ultimate in blasphemy.

He was driven out of the city by an angry crowd and stoned to death.

St. Stephen became the first Christian martyr.

In the past, many people in the Czech Republic celebrated St. Stephen's Day by going door to door and singing Christmas carols.

The classic Christmas carol "Good King Wenceslas" even makes reference to the Feast of Stephen.

That tradition has fallen by the wayside, and now most people spend St. Stephen's Day at home, relaxing with their families.
