"South African men have waged war on women." President Cyril Ramaphosa
This statement is not an exaggeration. It isn't some unnecessary hyperbole used to gain relevance. It is true. There is something very flawed in how men are socialised and as a result, we've come to a place in our society where femicide is a chronic social ill. The normalcy of gender based violence is so entrenched in our country that the only thing that causes outrage today is women literally being killed by men. We are in a moral blackhole, an unending violent spiral that keeps swirling because we, men refuse to dig deep into ourselves and admit that we have blood on our hands.
It is time to reengineer ourselves. It is time to heal and repent. It's time we have frank conversations about the condition of manhood in South Africa.
In this episode, Bongani Frank Masilela, Boitumelo Mpakanyane and Thami Pooe unpack these issues with utmost vulnerability and honesty. We hope to trigger necessary discussions and broader conversations in our spheres of influence at least.
We all have a part to play!
