George and Sally Pillsbury will discuss their family's contributions to Minnesota with the Star Tribune's Lori Sturdevant.

After earning his medical degree in 1952, Dr. John Najarian became a leader in the new field of organ transplant surgery, and formed one of the world's largest transplant programs, here at the University of Minnesota.

A civil rights activist since her teenage years, Josie Johnson has firsthand experience of some of the most contentious and volatile times in American history. She will lend her personal perspective to the defining moments of the civil rights struggle at the fifth installment of the U of M College of Continuing Education’s "LearningLife Forum: Witness to History."

The LearningLife Forum: Witness to History series will kick off 2011 with a true Minnesota luminary: former U.S. Vice President, Senator, and Ambassador Walter Mondale.

Mondale will be interviewed by the Humphrey Institute's Larry Jacobs. Jacobs is director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, an expert in American political history and policy, and the author of 10 books.

The University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education brings influential community leaders John and Sage Cowles to campus the evening of Thursday, Dec. 16, for a personal account of the significant moments that formed Minnesota’s thriving arts community.

Known as the "godfather of the Minneapolis music scene," Chris Osgood formed the seminal punk rock band The Suicide Commandos in 1974 and has been rocking ever since. He'll be talking with MinnPost's Jim Walsh, former City Pages music editor and award-winning columnist for the Pioneer Press. The event will include an acoustic performance by the reunited Suicide Commandos.
