On the cross Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” The only time the Son doesn’t refer to God as Father... He identifies with our fallen humanity, subjectively entering into the depths of our brokenness. Where Adam was in the garden, overwhelmed, with anxiety, guilt, fear, and shame, but not without returning with one final breath unraveling the lie that we’ve believed about the Father since the beginning. The last words on the cross were not “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” The last words on the cross were “Father, into your hands I set before you My spirit.”
