The most difficult bite work exercise to train in all biting dog sports is the object guard. This is the only exercise in bite work where the dog has to work completely independently of the handler. The dog needs to make a decision on when to bite and when to release the bite without any influence of the handler. This Object Guard Championship was filmed by Ed Frawley in 2001 at the KNPV championships in Denn Bosh, Holland. The Object Guard Competition does not take place every year at the KNPV Championships,we were just lucky enough to have been there on the year it was held.

This is the first time that I traveled to Holland and filmed the Object Guard Championships. This year the competition took place on the same weekend as the PH 1 and PH 2 championships.

The KNPV has 4 competitions: PH 1, PH 2, the Object Guard and a tracking test (Sperhund). Dogs that compete in the Object Guard all have PH1 titles before they attempt to qualify for this event. This year saw the first time in the history of the KNPV that one dog qualified for both the PH1 Championship and the Object Guard Championship.

In September of 2001, I traveled to Holland and filmed a Military and Security Dog Competition on the NATO Military Base in Soest, Holland. The work for these dogs is similar to KNPV dogs. In fact, most of the dogs have a PH 1 title (KNPV 1). There are some subtle differences between the work of these service dogs and the KNPV Competition.

Ed Frawley went into East Germany in October of 1989 before the wall came down and filmed this East German Sieger Show in Liepsig. The Sieger Show was the German Shepherd Dog Club of East Germany's confirmation show. This was the last DDR Sieger Show before the wall came down. The DDR offered a genetic option to German Shepherd Breeders. The breeder had not done a lot of over the border breeding. This is reflected in a different type of dog and different temperaments. The DDR schutzhund trial was also much different than Schutzhund in the rest of the world.

This 2 hour video has two dogs tracks and 4 dogs doing their obedience routine, including the first and third place dogs along with Kevin Sheldahl�s dog CJ from New Mexico. The video contains 6 dogs' protection routines, the first and third place dog, Kevin's dog CJ, a Giant Snauzer that takes the helper to the ground and Greg Momonee's dog Alk (from Michigan). Greg took 7th place which is the highest place any foreign competitor has ever finished in the WPO championships.
