  • Stud Count with Norelle and Matt Green

Kitzy sits down with Norelle and Matt Green from one of our new favorite bands, Stud Count, to talk about their debut self-titled album, out today on Smart Punk Records. They cover everything from the inspiration for the band's tongue-in-cheek name to dealing with the depressively gray winters of West Philly and, of course, a ton about their absolutely killer new album in between.

Stud Count is out today on Smartpunk Records. You can (and really, really should) pick it up now.

  • Conceit with GILT

Back in May, Kitzy and Andrea sat down with Ash and Tyler from GILT, one of our favorite bands over here at Left of the Dial. And then a bunch of stuff happened, and things got shuffled around, and you know how it goes. BUT we are very happy to finally be bringing you this conversation. We talk about vulnerability in songwriting, grief vultures, and the band's really brilliant EP Conceit, which was released earlier this year on SmartPunk records.

Catch GILT playing not one but three sets at Fest this year. Seriously, check them out. They're the best. If you don't believe us, you can check out their set from Fest 19 that we had the pleasure of recording.

  • Contender with Joe Candelaria of Forever Came Calling

Forever Came Calling is a band from Twentynine Palms, California. Their iconic pop-punk album, Contender, turns 10 this year, and to mark that anniversary, they’re heading out on a headlining tour this summer, hitting just about every region in the US. We were so thrilled to talk with Joe Candelaria, the band's lead vocalist and songwriter, about getting back on the road after a two-year break, revisiting songs he wrote a decade ago, showing love to your influences, being gentle with your past self, and what your favorite Ninja Turtle says about your taste in pizza. This was a really fun episode with a very thoughtful, candid guest, and we're excited for y'all to hear it!

  • Long Neck with Lily Mastrodimos

New Jersey’s Long Neck has a new album, Soft Animal, due out the 21st of June. They announced the album today along with the release of its first single, the earthy and ethereal (yes, it somehow manages to be both, simultaneously) “Gardener.” The single features lush violins arranged and performed by Marlene Bellissimo with warm vocal harmonies from RN Taylor of Los Campesinos!

Long Neck’s Lily Mastrodimos joined us on the podcast today to talk about the album, its influences, and the tender experience of writing and recording “Gardener” in particular. Soft Animal is out June 21st on Plastic Miracles in the US and Specialist Subject in the UK. • The Replacements with Tyler from The Tisburys

It's only taken us two and a half years, but we're finally doing our Replacements episode, and we've brought it one of our favorite people here at Left of the Dial–Tyler Asay of The Tisburys and Riverby–to help us out.

We're especially excited about this episode because a few weeks back, we had Tyler and the rest of the Tisburys in the studio to record a cover of The Replacements' "Left of the Dial," the song from which we, big surprise, take our show's title, and we get to share that with you today! We'll be using it as our theme song from now on, too!

It's a fantastic cover, featuring vocals from The Lunar Year's Katie Hackett. You can buy it today on Bandcamp, and The Tisburys are donating all of the proceeds to abortion funds in Pennsylvania: abortionfundpa.org/donate, so you should definitely pick it up.

If you're listening to this episode the day it airs (Friday the 13th!), and you live in the Philly area, you can catch The Tisburys along with The Lunar Year and Kate Dressed Up at Dawson Street Pub.

  • Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem with Patrick Cotnoir

This week marks the official beginning of Andrea's most ambitious undertaking to date: book the little known indie darlings Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem for a Left of the Dial studio session. And she's called in Muppet superfan Patrick Cotnoir (The George Lucas Talk Show, RAAAATSCRAPS, a million other cool things) to help.

Follow Patrick on Twitter where he is currently on a mission to get more followers than the cancelled NBC show, About A Boy.

In this episode Andrea read the quote, "For Teeth, it's always what feels right rather than what is correct." It's from the Muppets Crash Course series over at Just for the Halibut.

    Songs featured in this episode:

From The Muppet Movie: Can You Picture That?

From The Muppet Show: Money & Rockin' Robin

From The Muppets at Walt Disney World Rockin' All Around the World
