However, this comes at a time when there has been a spike in positivity cases among children in six states where schools had opened earlier. On the nine new Supreme Court Judges, Justice Deepak Gupta (retired), former Supreme Court judge, tells NDTV, "I congratulate Chief Justice of India NV Ramana for appointing nine judges out of the 10 vacancies. I wish there was a tenth Judge but I am happy with nine. Giving representation to women and other castes is very important. It is very important that the judges are equally important defenders of human rights and I have great hope and expectations from the nine ladies and gentlemen."

Nine new Supreme Court judges, including three women judges, were administered their oath of office by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana. This is the first time in the history of India's highest court that nine judges have been sworn in at one time. After the historic oath today, the Supreme Court now has four women judges, the highest number of sitting women judges the Supreme Court has ever had. Among them is Justice BV Nagarathna, who is in line to become the first woman Chief Justice of India in 2027. In an interview to NDTV, Justice Usha Mehra (retired), former judge of the Delhi High Court, says, "It is so good to hear that a woman judge will be the CJI (Chief Justice of India). These women have been elevated not because of seniority but merit."

The US said it destroyed an explosive-laden vehicle with an air strike in Kabul Sunday, hours after US President Joe Biden warned of another terror attack in the Afghanistan capital.
