These MLAs are now staying at a hotel where some BJP leaders have been spotted even as the party continues to deny any role in the developments. Earlier in the day, Congress leaders in Bengaluru were in a huddle and held a series of meetings, including one with H.D Deve Gowda. Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy cut short his US trip and arrived in Bengaluru only to head straight into an emergency JDS meeting. According to sources, the coalition is hopeful that some MLAs will come back. Is the coalition on the brink of collapse or can Kumaraswamy do some damage control?

The Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka appears to be on the brink of collapse with 11 lawmakers resigning on Saturday, while Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is away in the US. One rebel JDS legislator has even claimed that 14 lawmakers have resigned. The Congress and JDS together have 116 in the 224-member state assembly where 113 is the majority mark. The Hindus and Muslims of north Delhi's Hauz Qazi area have sent out a message of peace days after a temple was vandalised in the area. "No one can put an end to the brotherhood that we share here," they said saying they will repair the temple together.

Rahul Gandhi officially resigned as the Congress chief today and thanked the country and the party for the support. A new Congress president will be chosen "within a week", party sources told NDTV. Lawmaker Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "We have to regroup, we have no time, we can't afford even a day's delay."
