The foundation stone for the Kartarpur Sahib corridor to the Sikh shrine in Pakistan was laid on the Indian side by Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today. Both India and Pakistan recently accepted this long-pending demand of the Sikh community. The corridor will let Sikh pilgrims visit the iconic Gurudwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur on the banks of river Ravi in Pakistan. Guru Nanak Dev is believed to have spent the last 18 years of his life there. But there's plenty of politics taking place on the issue including sharp divisitions between Amarinder Singh and Navjyot Singh Sidhu.

A tense weekend in Ayodhya has ended peacefully. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has concluded a four-hour-long Dharma Sabha or congregation of religious heads amid tight security. From the stage, those who spoke, urged the government to bring an ordinance to facilitate the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya at the earliest. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the state assembly this evening after rival claims to form government from former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and People's Conference leader Sajad Lone, who is backed by the BJP.
