Eight Navy veterans sentenced to death by a Qatar court in October - for charges not yet known - will now face commuted punishments. The lawyer of the airline whose plane was allegedly used for a 'donkey' flight and was grounded in France has claimed that most of the passengers had hotel reservations and return tickets from Nicaragua, which was the destination as far as the company was concerned. Officials have said 299 of the plane's 303 passengers were Indian and the plane was grounded after a tip-off that the fliers were likely to be victims of human trafficking.

The Army Chief visited Rajouri days after four soldiers were brutally killed in an ambush, with some reports suggesting that their bodies were mutilated by the enemy. Three soldiers were killed in action and three others were injured during a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district today. The encounter began after terrorists ambushed two army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri's Poonch region, at 3:45 pm today.  This is the second major encounter in the region in a month.
