Who among us hasn't asked, “Lord, why is this happening to me?” when we find ourselves in this or that trial or tragedy? Sometimes our own physical suffering, seeing the suffering of loved ones, or even the ongoing, seemingly relentless struggles of life can bring us to the point of wondering if God is actually trying to make it hard for us to love and trust Him. It’s no news to any of us that pain is a part of life, but do we have a solid enough spiritual and theological framework to be able to glorify God and rejoice when everything in us wants to give up? That’s what we want to try to cultivate as we look together at God’s great promises from Romans chapter 8.

With this last message in our marriage series we will examine why simply knowing what to do does not solve our problems and fix our marriages. We must apply it to our lives for the sake of displaying God's glory in Christ!

We're examining the role of husbands in marriage with this message. The Lord has given men an incredible responsibility to lead their marriages, yet we rarely ask how to do that or what it should look like. What we will see is that Christ is not only the example for women in following their husbands, but also the example for husbands in loving their wives just like Christ loved the Church.

One of the most touchy and delicate topics of our day is that of roles within a marriage. Although the Bible has much to say about this issue, there is a great deal of misunderstanding that has caused tremendous, undue stress and tension. What we need to remember is that our roles are not for the purpose of exalting (or demeaning) us, but rather roles in marriage exist for the displaying of God’s character and grace.

In the first message of our marriage series we examined God’s plan for marriage with Adam and Eve in Genesis 2. This week we ask, “What went wrong?” It was such a great plan. Adam was so tender and Eve was so captivated by her husband, there were no barriers between them; they were “naked and unashamed”. Well, sin entered the picture and along with sin came tremendous barriers to the intimacy or “oneness” that God had designed.

A community is made up of families and at the center of each family is either a healthy or unhealthy marriage. God did not create something as foundational as marriage and then leave us here without a road map or game plan that shows us how it is to be lived out. As we begin this four-week series on marriage, it is appropriate that we should start at the beginning. In this message we look at Genesis 2:18-25 to see what God says a relationship between a man and his wife should look like.
