Isaiah calls all of Israel to hope in the promises of God and prepare for his total restoration of all creation to himself. His justice will bring about fullness for all who will believe. God permitted nations to overtake Israel, but only for a season. As their relationship is restored, he will bring justice for the way that her captors took advantage of her. Isaiah introduces the character of the Lord’s Servant, with the goal of encouraging Israel to see the bigger picture of suffering and God’s plans. Even though we suffer in this life, it shouldn’t mean that God doesn’t see us. Instead of getting stuck in the mire of despair, God reminds us that his Servant has come to us in Jesus Christ. Our hope rests and is restored in God’s work through him, but to see this we must continue to walk in faith and trust in God.
