Barry Farms and Hillsdale community is one of Washington, DC’s most historic black communities. Originally founded after emancipation by the Freedmen’s Bureau, the legacy of this community included the development of public housing. Designated as a historic landmark, an advisory committee was formed to integrate the original architecture and preserve residents’ stories.
