  • Key legal considerations when starting a business

Ignition's  very own Jake Schogger hosts a detailed discussion on the key legal considerations to keep in mind when starting a business, with Ignition partner and Head of Corporate/Finance, Helen Gerrard.

In this episode, we explore the pros and cons of setting up as a limited company, the legal steps that this entails, why these are important and how to get them right, and the importance of drawing up a shareholders’ agreement as early as possible.

Prior to joining Ignition in 2016, Helen worked at Magic Circle firm Freshfields for many years (in both London and New York), as well as at O’Melveny & Myers LLP in New York and Linklaters in London. She has also undertaken secondments to Goldman Sachs, Alcentra, Barings, Barclays Bank PLC and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd. In addition, Helen is also an entrepreneur, having founded SnowDrone Transfers in 2014, a private transport company with a fleet of 30 vehicles operating across the French Alps.

  • Funding Rounds

Ignition’s very own Jake Schogger kicks off our brand new podcast in style, hosting an in-depth discussion on funding rounds with the firm’s founder, Alex McPherson.

In this episode, we delve into funding rounds, including why businesses need funding, when they should seek funding, key sources of capital, the legal steps involved, key terms to negotiate, and an insight into what can go wrong when rounds aren’t properly managed.

Our guest, Alex McPherson, worked at Freshfields and Hogan Lovells as a corporate lawyer, before setting up Ignition Law in 2015. Ignition has grown exponentially to a team of roughly 80 and is now an award-winning law firm, with strong ethics and a majority female senior leadership team.
