Discussion

Not all nations are as vast and sweeping as Solamnia. Some are small regions that in ages past split with larger nations to carve out a future for themselves. This is precisely what Lemish did. As we know it in the War of the Lance era, Lemish is pinched between Solamnia, Estwilde, and the New Sea. It is bordered by the Garnet Mountain in the east and the Southern Dargaard Mountains in the west. The latter of which protects them from potential incursions from the Estwilde barbarians. Equally important to its inhabitants are the north and south Darkwoods, which hold back the people of Throt in the east and Solamnia in the west. A tributary of the Vingaard River circles the fortified city of Fearfold marking its northern boundary. And on its southern border, the New Sea offers the opportunity of shipping routes to its most common trade partner, Sanction. Life in Lemish is hard. Peasants are oppressed by the government and city folk are extorted by thieves guilds. Slavery is practiced and exported but lumber is the chief export of Lemish, with the building of small boats, nautical equipment, cabinetwork, poultry, medicines, legumes, mushrooms, and herbs also being very profitable.

The population of Lemish stands at around twenty-thousand, five hundred. Eighty percent of that is human, and now about fifteen percent are hobgoblin and five percent are draconian. The climate of Lemish is much like Solamnia, temperate most of the year, though the winters typically last a few weeks longer. The frequent rainfall provides thick vegetation, feeding the Darkwoods and central plains. The mountain tops are snow-capped nine months out of the year creating some of the most beautiful sceneries around. And from mid-Phoenix to early Rannmont, ice actually closes the New Sea bays. There is a saying in Solamnic, Savage as an Estwilder and untrustworthy as a Lemishan. While this is on its face disparaging of its people, the vast majority have earned its sentiment. They are collectively known for their unfair deals and bullying mentality.

Lemish was once part of Solamnia prior to the Cataclysm, and it was one of the largest cities one would pass on the great Seven Gods Highway when you left Solamnia toward Sanction. When Ergoth fractured, the people of Lemish were forced to fall under the protection of Solamnia, but they were not happy about it. They are people who are ambitious and fiercely independent. When opportunity rose to rebel, and it did a few times, they fought the Solamnics. However with their distance from Ergoth, they would ultimately have to return to the fold,
