Matthew 1:18-25 
God reveals to Joseph that something miraculous is happening in the life of Mary, his fiancée. He has an important role to play, but only the gift of God’s divine revelation could move him to embrace this new reality. What God reveals requires faith that can only be forged in regular rhythms of solitude in quiet spaces where a noisy world cannot distract. The resolve of Joseph in the Christmas story demonstrates that he regularly withdrew from the world to hear from the Lord, a practice he undoubtedly modeled for his son, Jesus. 

Luke 5:5-25 
Zechariah and Elizabeth were always waiting for a child but were continually disappointed. In the waiting, they experience the gift of God’s presence. Our response to God’s presence is prayer. This discipline makes us aware of God’s presence that is always near. Unfortunately, we are only occasionally aware of it. Prayer allows us to be surprised by an awareness of the divine that sustains and encourages us in the waiting. 

Ephesians 2:19-22

Revelation 21:1-7

Revelation 3:14-22 
Through Jesus’ messages to the seven churches in Revelation, we are reminded to truly listen—not just to reply, but to understand what the Spirit is saying. The message to Laodicea invites us to open the door to Christ, who desires deep fellowship and transformative work in our lives. God calls us to leave behind lukewarm living and fully surrender to His purpose, trusting His presence in every season.

Revelation 2:1-7 
Christians are called to know what they believe but it's equally important to know how to love. If we fail to love what we believe doesn't matter. The distinguishing characteristic of the holy life is the believer's capacity to love the people that God loves. This is our first love. 

Revelation 5 
When going through difficult times, one might be tempted to worry or even panic. The book of Revelation reminds us that God is sovereign and ultimately in control of our lives and the world. Heaven is not worried, but engaged in a worship service that exalts the "Lamb who has overcome." May we "worship on" when life presses in and know that the Lamb wins in the end.
