Lent Week 3 – The Seven Woes: For Pharisees & Us (3/30/2025)
After continual challenges by the Pharisees and teachers of the law, Jesus finally
calls out their hypocrisy with a damning tirade called the Seven Woes. These woes include accusations of hypocrisy, selectivism, poor motives, neglecting the poor, unrighteousness, and murdering God’s messengers. Yikes! But before writing off the Pharisees, we should ask ourselves, can these things be said about us? Perhaps this can be said of all of humanity – we have a tendency for hypocrisy, neglecting the poor, unrighteousness, etc. Jesus, during his final week in Jerusalem, is confronting the human wickedness that leads to the cross. We are more this way than we would like to admit. And it all points to the need for a savior. Audio from Tyson's sermon on March 30, 2025.
