We often play to an audience of people, even when they aren't physically present. And this audience dictates what e do and how we act. It even follows us into our religious lives. But in today's passage, Jesus invites us to not play to that audience of others and instead play to the only audience that matters - God. He shows how we can make religious practice about others and not God. And he invites us to practice secrecy in order to cultivate in inward life with God.

Jesus calls his followers to become a radically different kind of community—people of truth, peace, and integrity who refuse retaliation.

In today's sermon, Jesus begins to share his vision of what it looks like to live in the Kingdom of God. He takes Old Testament law and begins to unpack the real meaning behind it. But what we find isn't just a set of rules. No - Jesus gives us a staggering view of his vision of human worth and dignity, challenging us to live differently because of it.

The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus longest, uninterrupted teaching. It can be challenging, uncomfortable, and direct. And so perhaps because of that, we have found all sorts of ways to domesticate Jesus' words. But what if he really did expect his followers to live out the ethic implied in this sermon? We will begin our series by looking at the end of the Sermon on the Mount to learn how we might read and understand Jesus' most famous teaching.

In our final Worship series sermon, Pastor Megan talks about how worship creates a different pattern and rhythm for us. This habit helps create people who encounter God regularly.

True worship is when two or more are gathered to focus their hearts on God and cherish Him. But that means something… you are TOGETHER with other PEOPLE. And often that is where the trouble begins. That means you will sit next to people you don’t like with different opinions, shades of beliefs, and hygiene habits. It means you will be next to old and young. It means you will be uncomfortable. But that is sort of the point. When we worship together, we are demonstrating/ being reminded of something very important – we are all equal at the foot of the cross. We encounter God together. The church is God’s great tent where we all access his Spirit and focus on him. And the more diverse and different the people in the pews, the better.
